Manage Supply Chain Configuration

This is an important process for ongoing integration of supply chain design with the rest of the business. The following is a list of configuration design components from PLAN, SOURCE, MAKE, DELIVER, and RETURN  

These requirements involve government and trade requirements — issues that have increasing importance in global supply chains. Topics include taxes and tariffs, standards for customer protection, efforts to combat terrorism, environmental regulation, social policy, religious customs, and liability law. In some industries, changes here are the single most important determinant of future success. An important consideration can also be RETURN-related issues in areas where the company sells, makes, or sources materials for its products.

The requirements defined above must be met for all supply chain management problems included in the supply chain configuration scope definition (see Chap. 2). The problem space is reduced by focusing mainly on the decision-making aspect of supply chain configuration, as defined in Sect. 4.2. 

The conunon knowledge refers to industry standards and generally accepted supply chain management concepts. The common knowledge facilitates established mappings between concept definitions in repositories maintained by individual supply chain units, thus leading to easier establishment of the common repository used by the supply chain configuration system.
