Mack model

Equation (12.115) is commonly referred to as the kinetic model or Mack model, named after the scientist who first proposed it. In the case where the diffusion rate constant is large compared to the surface reaction rate, i.e., a 1, Eq. (12.115) reduces to... [Pg.592]

The MEG model has been extensively used to determine lattice energies and interionic equilibrium distances in ionic solids (oxides, hydroxides, and fluorides Mackrodt and Stewart, 1979 Tossell, 1981) and defect formation energies (Mack-rodt and Stewart, 1979). Table 1.21 compares the lattice energies and cell edges of various oxides obtained by MEG treatment with experimental values. [Pg.84]

Whereas the proton transfer does not effect the stochiometry of the final PI when water is eliminated in the imidization reaction (fig. 3F), addition of an excess ODA molecule to polyamic acid could lead to the imine type crosslink formation schematically shown in figure 3G. This would lead to a deficiency of carbonyl oxygen atoms for vapor deposited polyimide and is consistent with our analysis. Mack et al. [16] proposed imine crosslink formation from their Raman spectroscopic studies for vapor deposited polyimides with excess ODA. In accordance with this model we attribute the low binding energy shoulder in the polyimide Nls line (figure 4c) to double bonded nitrogen species. However, the model gives no explanation for the carbonyl deficiency found in spin deposited polyamic acid and polyimide. In this case no excess of ODA is observed and only a very weak shoulder has been reported for the Nls line [4,11]. [Pg.361]

Epidemic model revisited) In E.xercise 3.7.6, you analyzed the Ker-mack-McKendrick model of an epidemic by reducing it to a certain first-order system. In this problem you ll see how much easier the analysis becomes in the phase plane. Local-scaling transformations made their appearance in density functional theory (although in a disguised manner) in the works of Macke [58, 59]. Because the Thomas-Fermi theory corresponded to a free-electron gas model, and as such it was cast in terms of plane waves, any improvement on this theory required the introduction of deformed plane waves. Thus, initially local-scaling transformations were implicitly used when plane waves (defined in the volume V in ft3 and having uniform density p0 = N/V) ... [Pg.85]
