Machine dispensing

Pigments can be dispensed using plastic squeeze bottles with long nozzles. If the viscosity of the material is too high, it may be diluted with some plasticizer. If larger amounts need to be used, tinting machine dispensers are an option.

However, the most important feature of the ACCESS/ATLAS II is that it is the only tape lay-up machine that will lay compoimd contours. The reason it can do this is that the ACCESS system cuts the tape lengthwise into narrow strips. As the ATLAS machine dispenses the cut tape from the cassette along the contour of the tool, both edges of the tape travel the exact same distance. This contrasts sharply with standard tape-laying where typically 3-in. to 12-in. wide patterns are laid down as the tape follows the contour of the tool, the tape edges must travel unequal distances, creating folds and wrinkles in the tape. 

The idea that energy is quantized rather than continuous may seem strange, but the concept of quantization has many everyday analogies. For example, vending machines dispense cans or bottles of soft drinks only in whole numbers (you can t buy part of a can or bottle from a machine). Each can or bottle is a quantum of its soft drink. Other, more recently developed, uses include microwave oven parts, transparent pipelines, chemical plant pumps and coffee machine hot water dispensers. One exceptional use has been to produce, by an extrusion moulding process, very large rollers for textile finishing for use where cast nylons cannot meet the specification. Also of growing interest are medical equipment applications that may be repeatedly steam-sterilised at 134°C, filtration membranes and cartridges for ink-jet printers. 

Labeling From simple paper labels to multicolor decads and new preprinted plastic sleeve labels. Equipment runs the gaunt from hand dispensers to relatively high-speed machines. 

Hand dispensing is also used but on most modern machines application is by a continuous jet, spray or mist. 

The mixing can be done by hand, or in low pressure mixer/dispensers, and in reaction injection moulding (RIM) machines. In the latter operation the de-gassing operation is not required. 

Generally, detergent is added via special dispensers as shown in Fig. 3.9. In European machines there are usually 3 compartments, 2 for detergent for the pre- and main wash and one for fabric conditioner. It will be possible to modify wash programs retrospectively in existing washing machines, e.g. to match new detergent developments. Finally electronics may be the answer to the so far unsolved problem of simple automatic detergent dispensing.

Redundant piping system. Redundant piping systems can be installed, especially in conjunction with dual daytanks, to enable a complete cleanout of the delivery system between slurry batches. When this degree of redundancy is chosen, a totally separate slurry dispense machine is included to permit a backup for all major components.
