Lynch studies

Radical phenylation of iV-substituted pyrazoles has been studied by Lynch et al. (b-76MI40402). The most significant results are shown in Figure 24. 

A more significant body of literature focuses on the use of protoplasts in understanding processes related to stress tolerance. The role of Ca in salt toleranee has been evaluated using maize root protoplasts. Exposure of the plasmalemma directly to external media revealed a non-specific replacement of Ca by salt. Sodium was found to replace Ca though this could be reversed by adding more Ca (Lynch, Cramer Lauchli, 1987). This approach assists in understanding the role of specific ion interaction in enhancing salt tolerance and is potentially applicable to studies on the molecular basis for ion specificity of plant membranes.

Barber and Lynch (9) used this equation to recalculate data from previous studies on microbial growth in soil, using a constant maintenance coefficient (///). They found no case where energy input exceeded the requirement for maintenance, and suggested, therefore, that apart from zones immediately around recently incorporated plant and animal residues, appreciable and continuous activity in soils can be expected only in the rhizosphere.

Although Actinomyces has been linked with root surface caries (Edwardsson, 1987), contradictory reports on the microbiology of root surface caries still appear (Beighton and Lynch, 1995 Schiipbach et ah, 1995 Schiipbach et ah, 1996 Van Route et ah, 1994). A longitudinal study, however, failed to prove a role for Actinomyces (Ellen, 1993). Actually, lactobacilli and mutans streptococci are considered risk factors for root surface caries (Banting, 1991 Ravald and Birkhed, 1992). Generally, Gram-positive species predominate in the initial attacks on cementum and root dentin (Edwardsson, 1987).
