In summary, studies of STS have reported both positive and negative findings. All of the studies had limitations in statistical power or assessment of exposure. To date, no definitive answer exists as to whether STS is associated with exposure to phenoxy herbicides or chlorophenols. The situation is similar for lymphoma, stomach and nasal cancer. 

The particular types of the cancer disease induced by different asbestos species are given in Table 9.10. The table shows that besides the most frequent cancer types, such as bronchial cancer, mesotheliomas of the pleura and peritoneum, it is also possible to observe gastrointestinal tumours and tumours of the larynx, pancreas and lymphatic nodes (lymphomas). The relation between these diseases and asbestos has still not been definitely established [57]. 

In a re-evaluation of the Hanford cohort, which included approximately 28,000 male and female workers, Kneale et al. (1981) detected a significant increase in the cancers in radiosensitive tissues in workers exposed to external radiation. Radiosensitive tissues grouped together in their analyses included cancers of the stomach, large intestine, pancreas, pharynx, lung, breast, reticuloendothelial system (lymphoma, myeloma, myeloid leukemia and others), and thyroid. Approximately 50% of these cancers were in the lung however, smoking histories were not considered in the analysis. Of the male population, only 3% or 225 men had definite evidence of internal radiation. Due to this fact the authors stated that they could safely assume that the incidence of cancer from internal radiation was small compared with that associated with external radiation. 

Tumorigenicity A male renal transplant recipient developed a cutaneous T-cell lymphoma while taking tacrolimus, mycophe-nolate mofetil, and glucocorticoids In contrast to B cell lymphomas, T cell lymphomas are rare after transplantation 3-14% of all post-transplant lymphoproli-ferative diseases being related to T cells, and to date only 29 cases of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma have been reported, which precludes definite conclusions.
