A number of natural products have been extracted by SFE. Roots are a typical matrix from which several compounds are extracted. This is the case for the extraction of baicalein and baicalin from Scutellaria root (22), active compounds from lovage roots (23), tanshinone IIA from Salvia mil-tiorrhiza bunge (24), and kava lactones from kava roots (25). In all of these cases, the use of pure CO2 as extractant was the best option, as the extraction efficiency did not increase using organic-solvent-modified CO2 as extractant. [Pg.553]

The fruit oil contains up to 76% of P phellandrene and a-pinene (13%) as main ingredients. As no chiral values for the p-phellandrene are described in literature, it must be assumed that adulteration is done by this compound. p-Phellandrene is naturally available by geranyl diphosphate cycling (BRENDA, BRaunschweig ENzyme DAtabase) 2007. For adulteration copaiva balm, gurjun balsam, lovage root oil, and amyris oil were used in the past. Cheap a-pinene can also be used to improve the composition. [Pg.727]

ISO standard 3760 shows character and data for this oil. Blending is done with a-terpineol, limo-nene from orange oil, recti ed copaiba oil, lovage root oil, and amyris oil. Detection is best done by GC-MS. [Pg.730]

The composition of lovage root and leaves have been reviewed [155-157]. Lawrence also reviewed [158] two major studies by Toulemonde et aL, who comprehensively and quantitatively elucidated the 15 active phthalides present in lovage. [Pg.171]

Available data from one source indicate lovage root oil to be nonirritating and nonsensitizing to human skin, though one case of sensitization has been reported from another source. The phototoxic effects of lovage oil on humans are not known. [Pg.428]
