It has been observed by this author that the adaptability of an essential oil bearing plant to a dry habitat (xerophyte) or an environment that is neither too wet or too dry (mesophyte) has a profound effect upon the influence of water stress and intake on the oil yield. Cell cultures of coriander (Coriander satibrum L.) and lovage (Levisticum officinales) were investigated for the production of compounds useful in medicine and/or flavor. The production of lovage volatile compounds was only achieved in association with the organization of embryoids in the culture.
