Many cars are equipped with automatic door locks. As soon as your car reaches a certain speed, the doors will lock automatically. Many cars today are also equipped with antilock brakes. These brakes are designed to keep the wheels from skidding when the breaks are applied. Sensors on each wheel release the brake for a fraction of a second when that wheel starts to skid. A suitable form of apparatus is shown in Figure 15,2.
