Screening and Timing

One might ask, What s the big deal How long can it take to perform a drug test The answer to this question ranges from near instantaneous to a week and a half or more. Almost instantaneous results can be obtained in a couple of ways. One more common way to get these almost instantaneous results comes from performing the tests in-house with the latest test kits offered by various manufacturers. [Pg.65]

Whomever this person turns out to be, this task must be performed meticulously. Besides the precision needed when performing this test, any and all information regarding the outcome of any such tests must be kept confidential. During the test itself, a possibility exists that a bodily fluid may make contact with the tester. [Pg.66]

When someone fails a drug test, whether this is a preemployment test or otherwise, the failure of a drug test can be a sensitive situation. The person who has tested positive will often go into denial. Sometimes the denial is vehement. This denial situation can be unnerving, especially the first couple of times one experiences it. If you are performing the screening through an in-house person, this person can be the center of some harsh attention. [Pg.66]

On the other hand, depending on logistics, your company may already be set up to perform in-house testing, or minor modifications can be made so that in-house testing could easily be made. Typically, the people who [Pg.66]

From a practical point of view, there are several additional criteria that the ideal test should meet. Alternatives to current in vivo test systems basically should be designed to evaluate the observed toxic response in a manner as closely predictive of the outcome of interest in humans as possible. In addition, the test should be fast enough so that the turnaround time for a given test chemical is reasonable for the intended purpose (very rapid for a screen and timely for a definitive test). The speed of the test and the ability to conduct tests on several chemicals simultaneously will determine the overall productivity. The test should be inexpensive so that it is economically competitive with current testing practices. Finally, the technology should be easily transferred from one laboratory to another without excessive capital investment (relative to the value of the test performed) or the need for special skills for test implementation. [Pg.2621]
