Liquorice juice

Powell s Cough Balsam. Mix together 2 drachms syrup of tolu, 1 ounce paregoric elixir, and 2 ounces liquorice juice. [Pg.316]

A considerable amount of liquorice is sold as liquorice juice, which is an aqueous extract of the juice from the root, filtered and evaporated to a nearly solid consistency. Adulteration is frequent, mainly with starch and sugar, but it is difficult to judge sophistication as the constituents vary so widely according to the country of origin. [Pg.381]

It is a steroid like triterpenoid synthetic derivative of glycyrrhizic acid (obtained from liquorice) and has been found to be effective in healing both gastric and duodenal ulcer without affecting volume or acidity of gastric juice. [Pg.266]

The relative sweetness of NeoDHC is quoted at 250-1300 depending on concentration (Horowitz Gentili, 1985). Its taste is characterised by a slow onset time and a lingering liquorice aftertaste. This is a major limitation on its use in soft drinks applications. However, NeoDHC has some interesting taste-masking properties and has been used at very low levels (6-12 ppm) to mask bitterness in fruit juices (Horowitz and Gentili, 1985). [Pg.80]

ED was also suggested to deacidify liquorice extracts, containing 4 20% glycyrrhizic acid and 1(M10% dry matter, or to desalt the glycyrrhizin-free juice recovered after acidification (Bozzi et al., 1997). [Pg.342]

Confectionery is not made directly from the root but from a liquorice extract. These are obtained either in the form of a spray dried powder or the paradoxically named block juice . The spray dried extract is a free-flowing powder, yellowish brown in colour with a mild liquorice aroma and the characteristic bitter-sweet taste, whereas block juice is a solid block, resembling coal, but with the overpowering liquorice flavour and bitter-sweet taste. [Pg.119]

Flaxseed Tea. Macerate 1 ounce flaxseed and ounce bi uised liquorice root in 1 pint boiling water for 2 htmrs. in a lightly closed vessel filter, and add 1 fluid ounce lemon juice. This is a good drink in cases of catarrh. [Pg.322]

Salty flavours can be improved with ethanolic anise extract or liquorice or with tomato juice. [Pg.89]

Dossie lists tobacco juice among various organic browns such as Spanish juice (derived from liquorice see Spanish brown) and asphaltum (see asphalt), although he does not describe it (Dossie, 1764). [Pg.366]

The figure obtained will include insoluble matter other than gums and starches. Block juice contains 20 to 30 per cent, but stick liquorice may contain considerably more. [Pg.382]
