A full-scale pertraction installation was successfully put into operation in 1998 by the chemical firm KoSa Netherlands BV in Vlissingen, Netherlands. The pertraction installation is equipped with Liqui-Cel Membrane Contactors [105] (Liqui-Cel website, 2014) containing PP hollow fibers. It treats 15 mVh of wastewater originating from a chemical reactor. The water is heavily polluted with the product formed in the reactor. This product is an aromatic compound. In the pertraction installation, the organic compound is extracted from the wastewater using a feedstock for the reactor as an extractant. Thus, not only is the water cleaned, but lost product is recycled back into the reactor. In light of this pertraction installation, which saves KoSa 5 million m of natural gas annually, the existing wastewater incineration installation could be put out of operation. [Pg.66]

Among the commercially available membrane in the market, Liqui-Cel membrane, which is made from PP polymer, is extensively used in membrane contactor systems for pilot plant test.
