Limited shipment

The reduction of water limits mold formation, but only slightly affects the aroma or pungency. The dried product maintains its character and pound for pound is stronger in aroma and flavor than the fresh spice, since a nonessential component has been substantially removed. In areas where a spice is grown, the same product that is dried for storage and shipment is often used fresh for flavoring. 

Production statistics on alkanolamines are not available, but they are sold in thousand-ton quantities and are available for bulk shipment except for DMAMP, AB, TRIS AMINO, and AMPD (the latter two being crystalline soHds). TRIS AMINO concentrate is available in bulk. AMPD is manufactured only in low volumes to meet limited demand in certain specialized uses. Similarly, 2-AB is manufactured only to meet demand for one end use. 

The prices and mode of shipment for the various commercial grades of diacids are provided ia Table 4. The price of adipic acid is iacluded for comparison. In addition to these diacids, undecanedioic, brassyUc, tetradecanedioic, hexadecanedioic, docosanedioic, and tetracosanedioic acids ate available, expensive, and ia limited quantity from research chemical supply houses. 

The results of the Flixborough investigation made it clear that the large inventory of flammable material in the process plant contributed to the scale of the disaster. It was concluded that limitations of inventory should be taken as specific design objectives in major hazard installations. It should be noted, however, that reduction of inventoiy may require more frequent and smaller shipments and improved management. 

In addition to improving safety during transportation by optimizing the mode, route, physical conditions, and container design, the way the shipment is handled should be examined to see if safety can be improved. For example, one company tested to determine the speed required for the tines of the forklift trucks used at its terminal to penetrate its shipping containers. They installed governors on the forklift trucks to limit the speed below the speed required for penetration. They also specified blunt tine ends for the forklifts. 

Trucking also lacks the flexibility of rail shipment. If a railroad has to ship many lightly loaded containers, the railroad can simply add more train cars. Moreover, railroads can add train cars with only an incremental increase in fuel consumption. Constrained by regulations limiting trailer number, length, and weight, the same flexibility is not available to trucks. 

Product size is limited to available equipment that can handle the size and pressure as well as other processing requirements. Also involved are factors such as packaging and shipment to the customer. The ability to achieve specific shapes and design details is dependent on the way the process operates. 

These results must be shared (ASAP) with Tom in the warehouse. Together we conclude that careful venting of the drums and then-prompt use would be safe. The raw material is perfectly acceptable— and has probably received more thorough analysis than any lots received in quite some time Furthermore, an investigation, with the supplier of the ethoxylate, is undertaken to learn whether sodium borohydride has been used in our shipments in the past or if this was a one-time mistake. If it was not a mistake, can it be eliminated In addition, the recommendation was made to change our raw material specification by reducing the amount of allowable moisture and raising the lower pH limit. Finally, a full report on this incident was written for the company files. 

The pre-export notification system has been applied with particular success in Operation Purple and Operation Topaz. The Board notes the initiative, introduced under Project Prism, for a limited-time operation to utilize the pre-export notification system for monitoring shipments of pharmaceutical preparations containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine that are imported into countries in the Americas.
