Lifter

Helping to propel capacities upward has been the advent of greatly improved preheaters, which partially calcine the stone and significantly improve thermal efficiency. Modem preheaters improve capacity by 15—20% and decrease fuel consumption a similar percentage. Other kiln appurtenances and accessories that enhance efficiency and lime quahty are the contact coolers, and such kiln internals as metal refractory trefoil systems that act as heat exchangers, dams, and lifters. [Pg.171]

Static bath mode. Feed enters at one end of the dmm and the floats exit from the other end. The sink product is removed continuously from the rotating dmm through the use of lifters attached to the dmm which empty into a launder as they move to the top. A modification of the simple dmm separator is the two-compartment dmm separator which allows a two-stage separation. In the cone-type separator (up to 6.1 m in dia and 450 t/h) feed is introduced at the top. The medium in the cone is kept in suspension by gentle agitation. The sink product is removed from the bottom of the cone either directly or by airlift in the center of the cone. The maximum particle size that can be separated is limited to 10 cm. Other separators include the Drewboy bath and the Norwaltbath (2). [Pg.407]

The total power required to drive a rotaiy lain or a dryer with lifters can be calculated by the following formulas (courtesy of ABB Raymond). For a rotaiy lain or calciner without lifters,... [Pg.1208]

One manner in which size may be computed, for estimating purposes, is by employing a volumetric heat-transfer concept as used for rotary diyers. It it is assumed that contacting efficiency is in the same order as that provided by efficient lifters in a rotaiy dryer and that the velocity difference between gas and solids controls, Eq. (12-52) may be employed to estimate a volumetric heat-transfer coefficient. By assuming a duct diameter of 0.3 m (D) and a gas velocity of 23 m/s, if the solids velocity is taken as 80 percent of this speed, the velocity difference between the two would be 4.6 m/s. If the exit gas has a density of 1 kg/m, the relative mass flow rate of the gas G becomes 4.8 kg/(s m the volumetric heat-transfer coefficient is 2235 J/(m s K). This is not far different from many coefficients found in commercial installations however, it is usually not possible to predict accurately the acdual difference in velocity between gas and soRds. Furthermore, the coefficient is influenced by the sohds-to-gas loading and particle size, which control the total solids surface exposed to the gas. Therefore, the figure given is only an approximation. [Pg.1228]

Both all-rubber hners, and rubber hners with metal lifter bars are currently used in large ball mills [McTavish, Mining Engineering, 42, 1249-1251 (Nov. 1990)]. Both types (Fig. 20-32) have rubber-hner plates, separated and held in place by hfter bars. Rubber hners have the following advantages Abrasion and impact resistance, 15 percent... [Pg.1850]

An effeetive way of preventing vent loss is to use one of the many types of variable-volume tanks. These are built under API Standard 650. They may have floating roofs of the double-deek or the single-deek type. There are lifter-roof types in whieh the roof either has a skirt moving up and down in an annular liquid seal or is eonneeted to the tank shell by a flexible membrane. A fabrie expansion ehamber housed in a eompartment on top of the tank roof also permits variation in volume. [Pg.464]

A similar application of the concept as a slugging lifter of solids was studied by Singh (1978) based on the two-phase theory of fluidization and the properties of slugs. [Pg.242]

European machines in particular are operated with very low water levels in order to save energy and water. It is therefore important to ensure that the laundry load is soaked in water or suds as quickly as possible so that dry textiles do not rub unnecessarily against the drum or the rubber seal. This is achieved in European machines by constructional features that improve water absorption, shown in Fig. 3.3, such as lifter bars, circulation (jet) systems or direct injection. [Pg.21]
