Learning styles of students

Felder (1999) has developed a learning style model, particularly for engineering educatioa The model assesses students on four dimensions of preferences by utihz-ing a questioimaire study that involves 44 questions. The questionnaire is available at http //www.engr.ncsu.edu/leamingstyles/ilsweb.html. The four dimensions of learning preferences are  [Pg.329]

The work is presented in a variety of styles to cater for the many different learning styles of students. Some tasks involve reading and comprehension, others are thinking-and-doing tasks, and some involve calculations. [Pg.1]

The learning styles must be taken into consideration while teaching any course at any level. Analyzing the learning styles of students becomes helpful to the teacher in adapting his or her teaching style, which in turn benefits the students. We have... [Pg.349]

Teachers should be aware of the learning styles of both themselves and their students, being able to accommodate differences between the two. The use and value of different schemes of work involving context-based courses, demonstration lectures and cooperative learning have been provided by Tsaparlis (2008). [Pg.344]

Visual Encyclopedia of Equipment. This section was developed by Dr. Susan Montgomery at the University of Michigan. Here, a wealth of photographs and descriptions of real and ideal reactors are given. Students with visual, active, sensing, and intuitive learning styles of the Felder/Solomon Index will particularly benefit from this section. [Pg.739]

Clearly, the commercial or consultancy laboratory that tests sub-samples of a marketed product worth millions of pounds, or assesses the purity of pharmaceuticals, or analyses forensic samples, must have far higher levels of both accuracy and verifiability than student practical classes. There should, however, always be an effort to produce the most accurate and reliable results within the constraints of the laboratory facilities available, otherwise a lax attitude will produce work of doubtful interpretation that could mislead others, as well as giving little job satisfaction. Several books, which are more suited to the commercial sector, have been written on the quality of laboratory analysis, however some quality assurance practices could be beneficial in the smaller laboratory. A useful open-learning style book on basic concepts of quality in the analytical laboratory has been co-authored by staff at the Laboratory of the Government Chemist (Crosby et ai, 1995). [Pg.200]
