Tribasic Lead Silicate. Ttibasic lead siHcate [12397-06-7] 3PbO -Si02, is a reddish yeUow powder, spatingly soluble ia water. Its compositioa... [Pg.72]

Normal and dibasic lead stearate have a stabilising effect but their main uses are as lubricants (see section 12.5.4). Lead silicate is sometimes used in leathercloth formulations but is today of little importance. Other lead compounds now of negligible importance are coprecipitated lead orthosilicates and lead salicylate. [Pg.328]

The lead concentrate must he roasted for effective removal of sulfur and then smelted in a blast furnace. Sulfur is mostly removed hy a sinter process. The galena concentrate or the ore itself, if its impurity content is low, is mixed with silica and other slag-forming reagents and roasted in sinter machines to produce lead oxide, lead silicate, and some metallic lead. The principal reactions are ... [Pg.455]

Thermal Stability. The ABS-type polymers containing sufficient DBPF to pass the Underwriter s test were notably less prone to discoloration during processing than unstabilized PVC. On the other hand, they discolored when subjected to processing conditions normally used for conventional ABS polymers. Tribasic lead silicate was as effective as any of the common PVC stabilizers in preventing this discoloration during milling. [Pg.558]

Corrosion protection measures involve washing the metal object with reagents such as sodium sulfate or silicate, which form lead sulfate or lead silicate film. Whenever galvanic effects are envisaged use of insulation is recommended. Sodium silicate has been successfully used to inhibit release of lead from the solder in copper pipes carrying domestic water supplies. [Pg.269]

Lead silicate is insoluble in ammonium acetate solution it will be detected in 3. [Pg.412]

For very specific and limited applications the following lead-based products have been used lead suboxide, lead carbonate and lead cyanamide (mirror coatings), lead silicate (electro disposition primers), dibasic lead phosphate, tribasic lead phosphate silicate, and calcium plumbate [5.51, 5.53]. [Pg.211]

Lead is a reactive metal, but its reactivity is somewhat inhibited by the formation of an outer skin of protective compounds. For example, when a freshly cut piece of lead metal is exposed to the air, it quickly reacts with oxygen to form a thin outer layer of lead oxide. This outer layer then prevents further reaction between the metal and oxygen and other constituents of the air. A similar phenomenon occurs when lead metal is placed into water. Compounds present in water react with lead to form an outer skin of lead carbonate, lead silicate, or similar compounds that protect the metal from further attack. This property helps to explain the long popularity of lead for the lining of pipes designed to carry many different kinds of liquids. [Pg.81]
