Land slide

The Yamizo Mountains are mostly occupied by Paleozoic-Mesozoic sedimentary rocks, mainly of Jurassic age (e.g., Sashida et al., 1982) with a small amount of intrusive granitoids of unknown ages. The Paleozoic-Mesozoic sedimentary rocks have been called the Yamizo Formation (Kanomata, 1961). It is composed chiefly of shale, sandstone, alternating beds of shale and sandstone, and a small amount of limestone and chert. The succession of the geologic units and geologic structure of the Yamizo Formation have been left pending due to complex structure such as upturned beds (Kasai, 1978) and submarine land sliding (Aono et al., 1985). 

Step G Topsoil depth distribution map is prepared by SSPT or other SPTs and the above patchwork structure is clarified. The measurement should be conducted by 2 10 meters grid or traverse method. Because shallow landslide size is generally within 10 50 meters, small shallow land slide blocks are overlooked if the grid size is too big. After the mapping, unstable zone is subdivided into some shallow landslide blocks/ patches.

Undertake countermeasures against geotechnical hazards such as liquefaction (later spreading, settlement) and land-slides/rockfaUs or other induced phenomena such as the tsunami waves (e.g., protecting walls). 

Dry the sieve and count and examine any particles remaining on the sieve. Brush any particles retained on No 60 sieve onto No 40 sieve. At a larger detonation velocity, after the jump AH, motion occurs along the segment HF, and the impossibility in detonation of landing at the point G of the lower branch BGI thus follows directly from the mechanism of a chemical reaction which requires shock compression with a subsequent smooth slide along the Todes line in order to begin. Jump-wise motion...

Twenty-five million years ago, after a quiet interlude, North America s western continental arc awoke, and its abundant volcanos again added new rock to the continent from British Columbia to Texas and down the mountainous spine of Mexico. The only area in the Southwest in which volcanos were uncommon was the Colorado Plateau, whose immunity to the tectonic forces around it is still a mystery. Around the borders of the Colorado Plateau s remarkably thick crust, one volcanic catastrophe after another covered the land. In this time the San Juan mountains were formed in Colorado. The Rocky Mountains began to slide westward and rose again on the thrust faults beneath them. 

The land itself occasionally moves, due to landslides, erosion, avulsion, and accretion. The Big Island is a land of extremes there are alpine meadows, lava flows, steaming craters, and both black and white sand beaches. Athletes come to the Big Island to test their mettle the famous Ironman Triathlon is held here every October. Sightseers head for Volcanoes National Park where a huge lava flow slides steaming into the sea. 

Now there is little fresh land left to claim, and much of the land that isn t depleted of nutrients is heading in that direction. According to continent-wide surveys, the average acre of land in most countries of sub-Saharan Africa is stripped of at least thirty pounds of essential nutrients—nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash— each year. In some countries, the average depletion comes to more than sixty pounds per acre. Most of this, of course, is nitrogen. It s a slow-moving slide toward ruin. 

Contaminated land can present a physical hazard to site users. Landfill gas can cause explosion and fire. Explosions have occurred under houses built near to former landfill sites in Loscoe (Derbyshire) and Kenilworth (Warwickshire). Sites may also present physical dangers such as shafts, holes, tanks, tunnels, dilapidated structures and subsidence due to collapse of underground workings. The colliery spoil slide at Aberfan in 1966 killed 144 people including 116 school children. 

We detected the phenomenon e.g. by observing the interference color pattern left by protein drops landing on and rolling over ferric stearate polished anodized tantalum slides. 

It is interesting to note that very thick transfer films were established on smooth counterfaces (Figures 8 and 9). Such films are typically 10 ym thick and clearly submerge the details of the initial counterface profile, rather like snow drifts on the initial land topography. In this case the bulk polymer will slide on relatively thick transfer films and it will then be the Interfacial conditions between the two polymeric features which dictate the wear process, rather than the details of the burled metallic counterface. 

Once the snow cleared off the land, I was able to walk the newly-installed pipe track to inspect for damage. The wet, heavy snow had blanketed the area, felling scores of trees or their branches. The temperate climate had permitted an aboveground pipe track for this hydro system, increasing its vulnerability to falling debris or slides. Luckily, all 300 feet of pipe track were unscathed. I was ready to finish the hydro-electric system begun many months ago.
