Alcohol isodecyl

Polygas Olefins. Refinery propylene and butenes are polymerized with a phosphoric acid catalyst at 200°C and 3040—6080 kPa (30—60 atm) to give a mixture of branched olefins up to used primarily in producing plasticizer alcohols (isooctyl, isononyl, and isodecyl alcohol). Since the olefins are branched (75% have two or more CH groups) the alcohols are also branched. Exxon, BASE, Ruhrchemie (now Hoechst), ICl, Nissan, Getty Oil, U.S. Steel Chemicals (now Aristech), and others have all used this olefin source. [Pg.458]

The overall growth for -butyraldehyde depends primarily on / -butanol and 2-ethyIhexanol. 2-EthyIhexanol is expected to face competition from other alcohols, eg, isodecyl alcohol [25339-17-7] as well as from newer production sources. [Pg.381]

Other olefins applied in the hydroformylation process with subsequent hydrogenation are propylene trimer and tetramer for the production of decyl and tridecyl alcohols, respectively, and C7 olefins (from copolymers of C3 and C4 olefins) for isodecyl alcohol production. [Pg.164]

Meanwhile, Rohm and Haas introduced the first of the polymeries - polyesters based on the reaction of a dibasic acid with a glycol and with a monohydric alcohol or monobasic acid as chain terminator(j>). These plasticizers were developed as highly permanent, extraction and migration resistant types for specialty applications. 2-Ethylhexanol and isodecyl alcohol are examples of monohydric alcohols used as chain terminators in today s polymeries. [Pg.186]

Styrene-15% DVB copolymers obtained in the presence of polystyrene and C5-C10 aliphatic alcohols as the precipitating agents are characterized by smaller values of porosity, pore volume, and specific surface area compared with those of copolymers prepared with alcohols only. Kolarz [348] found that copolymerization in the presence of n-decyl alcohol and polystyrene at the diluents to comonomers volume ratio of 1.2 results in a copolymer having the porosity of 44%, surface area of 16.5 m /g, and total pore volume of 0.88 cm /g, 80% of pore volume being formed by voids with radii ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 A. In comparison, the pore volume of 1.94 cm /g and surface area of 43.6 m/g are characteristic of a copolymer synthesized with isodecyl alcohol under the same conditions. [Pg.112]
