Inventory enforcement

The recent rise in the use of expolosives in terrorist activity poses new challenges to industry and law enforcement. This challenge is being met by the use of sophisticated chemical detection devices to screen for bombs and more rigorous explosive inventory safeguards and controls. Plans have also been proposed to tag explosives with isotopes to make them easier to trace if misused. 

Although the GLP revisions of 1987 excluded animal feed and water from the definition of control article, it would appear that such common vehicles as saline solutions and carboxymethylcellulose solutions still fall within the definition. Such a strict definition of the term for such innocuous vehicles as saline solutions is quite burdensome when one considers the requirements for control articles that are found in other sections of the GLPs characterization [ 58.105(a)], stability testing [ 58.105(b)], sample retention [ 58.105(d)], and inventory [ 58.107(d)]. It does not appear that this comprehensive definition is enforced by FDA field investigators in the course of GLP inspections.

Factors like pack disposal, inventory management and storage requirements are also becoming decisive arguments in the marketplace and are frequently enforced by changes in the regulatory arena (e.g. pressure to reduce organic solvents). 

Pick a company in your geographic area and see how green it is. Check its Toxic Release Inventory, spills, Superfund sites, enforcement actions, penalties, annual report, items about it in the local newspaper, and what trade associations it belongs to, together with their actions. (If you cannot find all of these, use what you can. If you are in a country other than the United States, try to find comparable data.)...

The CAA contains specific provisions for nonattainment areas and requires States to develop SIPs to implement these provisions to attain and maintain the NAAQS in those areas. The SIPs are air quality plans which include an analysis of the sources of pollution (emission inventory), a strategy to attain and maintain the NAAQS by reducing emissions from key sources (attainment or maintenance demonstration), and enforceable regulations to carry out the strategy.
