Interleukin-6 receptors were mainly expressed in hippocampal pyramidal cells of the Mongolian gerbil (Vollenweider et al. 2001). Their immuno-reactivity remained unaltered 5 and 12 h after transient (7 min) global ischaemia. The disappearance of their expression was correlated to the ischaemic insult and neuronal cell death, which began in CAl two days after recirculation. After S and 4 days, IL-6 receptors were absent in CAl and CAS.
