In the NTP (1986) study, male mice had marginally increased incidences of hepatocellular tumors and mesenchymal tumors of the integumentary system at 500 mg/kg/day and of malignant lymphomas at 250 mg/kg/day. NTP (1986) considered this evidence to be equivocal because the study showed marginal increases in neoplasms related to isophorone exposure. The doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg/day are indicated in Table 2-2 and Figure 2-2 as CELs for carcinogenicity in mice. There was no evidence of carcinogenicity in female rats or mice. [Pg.44]

The integumentary system (i.e., the skin) serves multiple functions in preserving homeostasis. Several of these functions, if disrupted, could result in fluid volume imbalance. The skin also provides invaluable data related to disturbance in sensory or circulatory status. Any injury to the skin, such as a laceration or tearing from trauma or friction, will disrupt the function of the skin. Five main physical functions of the skin include... [Pg.196]

Many diversified activities of men and women are carried out through the combined actions of a complex structure of organ systems distributed in different parts of the human body. These include the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, digestive system, endocrine system, integumentary system, lymphatic system, immune system, respiratory system, nervous system, urinary system, and reproductive system. [Pg.1]

Integumentary system The integumentary system includes the skin and skin appendages, such as the sweat and sebaceous glands, hair, and nails. As the largest organ system in the human body, it is responsible for protecting the body from most physical and enviromnental factors. [Pg.2]
