Integrated development environment

Microsoft Office allows the option to record macros for performing repetitive tasks. Although macros are somewhat limited for the development of true VBA applications, macro recording can be used effectively to learn VBA or create templates of code that can be generalized with the addition of variables. If VBA for Microsoft Office is enabled, you only need to press alt-fi i to open the VBA Integrated Development Environment (IDE). A search of the on-line help for Application Object will provide an interactive object hierarchy that describes (with detailed code examples) each object or collection. There are literally thousands of objects within the Microsoft Office application object models. Another very useful tool within the VBA environment is the Object Browser, which can be invoked with the F2 key. The Object Browser can be particularly useful to learn the objects of external components that have been referenced from within VB or VBA. This method is an excellent way to get started with new object types and follow along with the documentation. An example is shown in Figure 18.3 from the Excel 2000 VBA IDE. The experience reuse framework consists of the Process Data Warehouse, the process-integrated development environment PRIME, the Documentum repository, and a set of integrated tools, e.g., MOREX. This framework is able to specify the current problem situation based on the integrated rules, and tries to find a matching process trace or a recurring method fragment in the experience base of the PDW. 

Anaconda is a Python distribution, developed by Continuum Analytics, containing a number of common Python packages that are catered for scientific computing and data analysis. The Anaconda distribution also contains the Python interpreter, and hence there is no need to have Python installed on your computer prior to installing Anaconda. Jupyter is also bundled with the Anaconda distribution. An integrated development environment (IDE), called Spyder, is included for editing and executing Python code. 

Recently, another object-oriented language for web compatibility, namely Java [13], has been created and it revolutionized the WWW of the Internet age. Several specialized books and free Internet web resources in the area of computer programming, languages, compilers, etc. are available for interested readers. Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) include NetBeans and Eclipse. The java program is compiled using javac in the command line. The JDK needs to be installed. 

Any android application in general requires the installation of four components, Java Development Kit (JDK), Eclipse (Integrated development environment for JAVA), android SDK and Android development tool (ADT) [28]. An emulator is required for testing and debugging the software. The executable code for android is termed as Activity which corresponds to display screens. 

The amount and variety of software produced since the invention of the computer in the 1940 s is truly phenomenal. World Wide Web browsers, e-mail, and personal productivity software (such as Microsoft Office) are used by people at home and at work. Operating systems, middleware, and integrated development environments (such as Microsoft s Visual Studio) are used by professional programmers to produce new computer applications every day. Web development systems are used to produce Web services that support applications on desktops and mobile devices.

It is concluded that it would be reasonable to claim that available systems and application software design techniques were suitable for safety related applications. The limiting factors are perhaps the lack of an integrated development environment extending to formal methods and the poor support for testing. The provisos are less significant when PLCs are used in simple plications.
