Insulated liquid carbon dioxide containers

Insulated liquid carbon dioxide bulk containers... [Pg.306]

Larger users of liquid carbon dioxide typically use insulated bulk containers. These range in capacity from 400-lb (181-kg) vac-... [Pg.306]

Disposal of refrigerated liquid carbon dioxide (insulated containers)... [Pg.308]

Bulk containers for storing liquid carbon dioxide at low pressures are well insulated and equipped with a means, usually mechanical refrigeration, to control and limit internal temperatures and pressures. Storage temperatures are maintained well below ambient temperature, usually in the range of — 20°F to -10°F ( 28.9°C to 23.3°C) with corresponding carbon dioxide pressures of 200 to 345 psig (1379 to 2379 kPa). [Pg.294]

Cryopumping. A simpler method for inducing a vacuum is known as cryopumping. A hermetically sealed insulation space is first filled with a gas, most commonly carbon dioxide. When the inner vessel of the container is filled with a cryogenic liquid, the gas molecules in the annular space condense and freeze on the inner wall, creating a vacuum in the insulation space. Carbon dioxide molecules, for example, will freeze out on a surface cooled below 200 K, thus reducing the gas pressure in a sealed insulation space. Tests have shown that, with one wall of insulation exposed to liquid hydrogen temperature, a 2.7 x 10 MPa pressure can be achieved by this technique. [Pg.402]

Nitrous oxide is contained and transported in its liquid phase in high-pressure gas cylinders or in liquid cylinders. It is transported as a liquefied compressed gas under high pressure in cylinders and at lower pressures and reduced temperatures in refrigerated cargo tanks and insulated portable tanks. Nitrous oxide is stored in a foam-insulated tank accompanied by a refrigeration unit, which is similar to the tank used for carbon dioxide. [Pg.1232]

Carbon Dioxide Self-contained breathing apparatus in excessively high COj concentration areas. For handling liquid or solid, wear safety goggles or face shield, insulated gloves, long-sleeved shirt, and trousers worn outside boots or over high-top shoes to shed spilled liquid. Move victim to fresh air. Treat bums from contact with solid in same way as frostbite. ... [Pg.297]
