Strength Habitability surveys conducted at CP (command post) upon arrival of Haz-Mat team. EPA conducted surveys at CP upon their arrival. SRS (Savannah River Site) and Richmond County Haz-Mat resources arrived on scene within a timely manner and were designated by FDIC (Fire Department Incident Commander) to be responsible for Haz-Mat operations. Haz-Mat personnel assisted in CP location determination. EPA utilized Coast Guard Gulf Coast Strike Team to provide monitoring and on scene response. By comparing consist (a list of all the cars in the train which describes their position in the train, type, contents, destination, etc.) to entry team visual inspection, chemicals involved were accurately identified. Written response plan and safety procedures implemented for Haz-Mat operations. Briefings provided to Haz-Mat responders by Safety Officer on entry considerations maps were covered for responders unfamiliar with the area. 

Design separate storage areas for flammable solvents, corrosive liquids, reactive chemicals, explosive chemicals, and chemical carcinogens. Properly inspect chemical containers and packages before use and also periodically.

The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated on two rqjresentative NDT techniques intapretation of data acquired with an ultrasonic rail inspection system and interpretation of eddy-current data from heat exchangers in (petro-)chemical industry. The results show that it is possible to provide a high level of automation in combination with efficient operator support for highly variable NDT measurements where up to now use of automated interpretation was only limited. 

A Real Time X-Ray Inspection System is introduced to replace Film X-Ray. The main objective is to reduce the consumption of film and to reduce the environmental pollution due to lead intensifying screens and chemicals. Other benefits are the reduction of space to storage X-ray data and the shorter inspection time, which gives a faster feed back to production. 

Detection of this particle accumulation has so far been done visually. To make the particles more easily visible, they have been chemically treated in order to make them light up or flouresce when struck by an ultraviolet light. The operator sits in a darkened room in which the test pieces are illuminated by ultraviolet light. Cracks show up very clearly and in principle this method of inspection is acceptable. The absolute measurement of areas is not usually usefiil, because tlie sensitivity of the spectrometer depends on factors such as temperature, pulse length, amplifier settings and the exact tuning of the coil used to detect resonance. Peak intensities are also less usefiil, because linewidths vary, and because the resonance from a given chemical type of atom will often be split into a pattern called a multiplet. However, the relative overall areas of the peaks or multiplets still obey the simple rule given above, if appropriate conditions are met. Most samples have several chemically distinct types of (for example) hydrogen atoms within the molecules under study, so that a simple inspection of the number of peaks/multiplets and of their relative areas can help to identify the molecules, even in cases where no usefid infonnation is available from shifts or couplings.

A manufacturer of dmg chemicals is required to register with the FDA, and is subject to FDA inspection at least once every two years. Some manufacturers who make chemicals that incidentally are dmgs are impelled to drop the dmg designation from their labeling in order to avoid the exposure to inspection that registration entails. 

Fiber-Optic Probes. Fiber-optic probes provide remote sampling capabilities to Raman instmmentation, are stable, and give reproducible signals. Their historical niche has been in environmental monitoring. More recently these probes have been used in chemical process control and related areas such as incoming materials inspection.
