Insomnia drug-induced

Irritability insomnia Drug-induced seizures (in doses > 6 mg/kg) Contraindicated in bulimia... [Pg.758]

The patient experiences anxiety, apathy, bradyphrenia (slowness of thought processes), confusional state, dementia, depression, hallucinosis/psychosis (typically drug-induced), and sleep disorders (excessive daytime sleepiness, insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, and rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder). [Pg.643]

Excessive central stimulation, usually exhibited as tremors, insomnia and hyperhidrosis, can occur following therapeutic doses of the MAOIs, as can agitation and hypomanic episodes. Peripheral neuropathy, which is largely restricted to the hydrazine type of MAOI, is rare and has been attributed to a drug-induced p)n idoxine deficiency. Such side effects as dizziness and vertigo (presumably associated with hypotension), headache, inhibition of ejaculation (which is often also a problem with the TCAs), fatigue, dry mouth and constipation have also been reported. These side effects appear to be more frequently associated with phenelzine use. They are not associated with any antimuscarinic properties of the drug but presumably arise from the enhanced peripheral sympathetic activity which the MAOIs... [Pg.188]

Common effects The (3-blockers may cause CNS side effects such as fatigue, lethargy, insomnia, and hallucinations these drugs can also cause hypotension. The p-blockers may decrease libido and cause impotence drug-induced sexual dysfunction can severely reduce patient compliance (Figure 19.8). [Pg.196]

Adding mirtazapine to venlafaxine or SSRIs may reverse drug-induced anxiety and insomnia... [Pg.304]

Diphenhydramine, like other antihistamines, is most often used to provide symptomatic relief of allergic symptoms caused by histamine release. The drug is also used as an antitussive, a nighttime sleep aid for the short-term treatment of insomnia, and as a preventive and treatment for motion sickness. Diphenhydramine may be useful in the treatment of parkinsonian syndrome in geriatric patients including drug-induced ex-trapyramidal reactions. Diphenhydramine has been used topically for the temporary relief of pruritus and pain associated with various skin conditions including minor burns, insect bites, and minor skin irritation. [Pg.883]

Hypoglycemia drug-induced Hypothalamic hormones Immunization agents used in Immunosuppressive medications In vitro fertilization drugs for Insomnia treatment with benzodiazepines Insulin preparations Iodine-containing products Ischemic stroke treatment of Laxatives... [Pg.808]

But that was only one half of the logic behind the chemical-imbalance theory. The other half came from studies of reserpine, a drug that was extracted from Rauvolfia serpentina or the Indian snakeroot plant, which had historically been used to treat snakebite, hypertension, insomnia and insanity. In studies of animals, reserpine was reported to induce sedation and to decrease brain levels of norepinephrine, serotonin and dopamine. Clinical reports indicated that some people became severely depressed when taking reserpine.14 Putting these two findings together, it seemed likely that reserpine made people depressed because it decreased neurotransmitter levels. [Pg.87]

Trazodone, 25 to 100 mg, is often used for insomnia induced by selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or bupropion. Side effects include serotonin syndrome (when used with other serotonergic drugs), oversedation, a-adrenergic blockade, dizziness, and rarely priapism. [Pg.830]
