The innovative and technological achievement of computerized axial tomography required a sophisticated understanding of physiology, mathematics, and radiology. A clear comprehension of chemical principles also contributes to the success of this diagnostic technique.

Since World War II public interest in innovation has been steadily increasing. Conservatively, innovation is a growth industry. While the words were scarcely known and seldom used 25 years ago, talk of innovation and technology transfer can now be heard at almost every national and international conference, and the words can be read every day in lay and technical journals around the world.

In spring 2004 the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) established a hydrogen task force within the ministry with the goal to foster the hydrogen/fuel cell topic within the Austrian RTD landscape. It is expected that in 2005, a joint call between A3 and EdZ programs will further strengthen the Austrian RTD activities.

In a liberalized regime, an important consideration is how to finance innovation and technological change in order to secure an efficient diffusion of new technology and in order to increase dynamic efficiency. One solution to the problem, adopted in the Norwegian context, is a requirement that shippers shall pay a fixed percentage of the tariff to help cover for research and development costs. 

What is RTCI all about It is a conference intended to provide participants the chance to learn more about how industrial research is conducted and managed, network with minority scientists and scientific managers and learn about key factors for success, appreciate the value of team research and its role in bringing about innovation and technology development, evaluate their interview and resume-writing skills, and understand the value of diversity in a corporate culture. The conference is highly rated each year by participants and self-described as one of the more informative conferences many have attended.
