Typically, thermoplastics, because of their high melt viscosity, require higher temperatures and injection molding pressures, or expensive mold fabrication costs to design multiple gate systems and therefore are not cost effective materials for large parts. In addition to cost, the use of multiple gates may also lead to a less structurally sound part as a result of knit lines. [Pg.3031]

To minimize pressure and heat losses, the runners should be round and as short as possible. Another preferred choice is trapezoid runners that are easy to machine and provide the same amount of resistance to flow as round runners. They should blend smoothly into the gates, without abrupt cross-sectional changes. The runner s length should be reduced and its diameter increased when the thickness of the molded part increases. A runner diameter of at least 6 mm is required for a 10 mm thick part. Thicker parts require runners that are 50%-100% larger in diameter than the thickness of the part. As in injection molding, pressure drop and material loss are de-... [Pg.237]

The mold-filling process is simulated in order to determine whether they can be produced with the selected molding compound. The relevant parameters include the injection type and position, flow lines, the injection molding pressure and temperature, and the expected cycle times. [Pg.353]

In order to evaluate the combined effect of typical injection molding pressures and temperatures, a new equipment was designed as a natural extension of the previously described appwatus. A standard Negri Bossi NB25 injection moulding machine was used as a source of molten polymer supplied at a pre determinable and maintainable pressure at which the polymer can be injected into a preheated mould cavity. [Pg.440]

As high as possible and consistent with other requirements, for example, surface finish. To get high speeds it is not necessary to use high injection molding pressures set the relief valve to get a consistent fill rate. [Pg.57]

Injection-molding pressure n. (1) The pressure applied to the plastic by the injection screw (or ram) during the injection stroke. (2) The pressure of the melt within the mold cavity just prior to the freezing of the gate. [Pg.525]

Melt pressure n. The gauge pressure exerted at any point in a processing apparatus that develops pressure. In extruders, melt pressure in the head is usually monitored. In injection machines the location is analogous but melt pressures have also been measured in mold cavities. Not to be confused with (though related to) injection-molding pressure. [Pg.603]

Injection molding pressures range between about 10,000 and 30,000 psi, and this will crush most hollow spheres. In general, the lower the density, the lower the compressive strength of the hollow spheres so only low pressure fabrication can be used. [Pg.496]

During injection molding, pressure is required to ensure that the feedstock completely fills the mold cavity. When the mold is completely filled, the compact is cooled in the mold under pressure. The pressure is only removed at the end of the molding cycle. Residual thermal stress is always present in conventional thermoplastic injection molding due to... [Pg.253]

It should be possible to design, and to operate, injection molds so that high injection molding pressures are not necessary. This may be done by using a correctly sized feed system, using high melt and mold temperatures and, by using reduced flow path wall thickness ratios. If the injection pressure requirements are... [Pg.35]

Figure 7 shows the simulation results of filling pattern when the spiral feature is molded. According to Figure 7, the variation of Factors such as injection molding pressure, the resin temperature, the mold temperature, injection molding rate, etc induces different results of simulation in spite of one injection mold system. [Pg.1300]

Figure 9 shows the contribution rate of each Level . The optimum condition selected in this paper is as follows the injection molding pressure( Lever 2, 2020kgf cnf), the resin temperature( Level 3, 290 °C), the mold temperature( Lever 2, 80 °C), flow ratef Level 3, 41.4 cnf/sec). The S/N ratio of selected condition is 34.82. This value is larger than the average S/N ratio(30.8). [Pg.1301]

In micro injection molding process, high resin temperature and injection molding pressure are needed compared with conventional injection molding process. [Pg.1301]
