Industrial hygiene data

The tool was developed using about five years of industrial hygiene data to support the logarithmic scales assigned to each control strategy. The layers of protection can be represented by the diagram shown in Fig. 16.1 and translate to levels of the traditional control hierarchy. 

There was no apparent effect on mean number of pregnancies in women who were occupationally exposed to Aroclors 1254, 1242, and/or 1016 (Taylor et al. 1989). This study had limitations due to small numbers of subjects and the availability of only estimates of exposure based upon job descriptions, manufacturing process, and industrial hygiene data. Additionally, the mean number of pregnancies represented data not adjusted for potential confounders.

IV. Diagnosis of carbon disulfide toxicity is based on a history of exposure along with consistent signs and symptoms of one of its toxic manifestations. Industrial hygiene data documenting airborne exposure, if available, are useful diagnostically and In initiating protective measures. 

Industrial exposure data. Rarely, detailed Industrial hygiene data may be available to delineate specific exposures and exposure levels in cases of ongoing, chronic exposure. 

The industrial hygiene data for the plant were reviewed to attempt to establish exposure groups. The data showed that, of the 1500+air samples taken, 89% contained nothing detectable. The highest exposure was approximately 1 ppm (xylene). The data were not used to construct exposure rankings. Exposures were determined by employees reporting their activities where they worked, how often they performed certain tasks etc. 

Most large companies have purchased or developed sophisticated computer systems to store and access this data in order to be able to generate reports for use in epidemiological studies. In some of these systems, interfaces exist between medical, personnel and industrial hygiene data, assisting medical departments in performing... 

The industrial hygiene data collected demonstrated that there were no detrimental human, health or safety factors associated with the storage or handling of the tire chips at the plant. There were no noticeable odors from the tire chips, either inside or outside the plant, and the results of testing indicated there were no significant worker hazards associated with tire chip burning when compared to burning coal alone.
