The studies with sediment cultures indicate natural degradation potential for aquatic sediments exposed to anthropogenic CP pollution. However, in situ remediation rates for CP-contaminated sediments may be difficult to enhance. Possibilities involve nutrient and electron donor/acceptor amendments. Ex situ remediation could involve sediment dredging and application of methods developed for soil decontamination, such as slurry reactors and composting.

Locating deposits of bitumens on the basis of geomicrobiological methods — for example the occurrence of methane bacteria can indicate natural gas, propane bacteria indicate the presence of petroleum, and similarly for bacteria utilizing butane, pentane and hexane.

The arrangements used for testing mechanical properties of the adhesives had been constructed recently. The determined values of the shear modulus were unreliable in the first set but it the second set the scatter of results was reasonable. However, the shear modulus values should be used realising their indicative nature while maximum shear stress values may be considered reliable. Typical shear behaviour of the tested adhesives is presented in Figure 3.

Forecasting the future trend of any commodity in terms of availability, production, and price is somewhat hazardous, and for natural rubber is probably more hazardous than most. Some conditions exist, however, that would indicate natural rubber will be around for some time at reasonable prices. Although tire production in the United States may be on a plateau, the increasing industrialization of the Third World countries keeps world demand for elastomers rising and at a faster rate than natural production. Such countries, at least in the short term, increase production of trucks rather than passenger automobiles and truck tires require more natural rubber than do passenger tires.

The important physical constants regarding the fission process for the uranium and thorium isotopes and by-products are given in Table I. As is indicated natural thorium ( Th) is only fissionable by fast neutrons with an energy greater than 2MeV (2 x 10 eV). Even then, however, the probability of capturing a neutron that will cause fission (uy) is very low.
