The amount of polymer adsorbed on each sample was measured by pressure filtration through a 0.1 m filter, followed by analysis of the filtrate for residual polymer by gel permeation chromatography with refractive index determination. Particle zeta potentials were measured by taking a small sample of the solids from the centrifuge and re-suspending them in the supernatant prior to analysis in a Malvern Instruments Zetasizer . The concentration of all other types of ions in the supernatant was analysed by ICP atomic emission spectroscopy. [Pg.58]

In several previous papers, the possible existence of thermal anomalies was suggested on the basis of such properties as the density of water, specific heat, viscosity, dielectric constant, transverse proton spin relaxation time, index of refraction, infrared absorption, and others. Furthermore, based on other published data, we have suggested the existence of kinks in the properties of many aqueous solutions of both electrolytes and nonelectrolytes. Thus, solubility anomalies have been demonstrated repeatedly as have anomalies in such diverse properties as partial molal volumes of the alkali halides, in specific optical rotation for a number of reducing sugars, and in some kinetic data. Anomalies have also been demonstrated in a surface and interfacial properties of aqueous systems ranging from the surface tension of pure water to interfacial tensions (such as between n-hexane or n-decane and water) and in the surface tension and surface potentials of aqueous solutions. Further, anomalies have been observed in solid-water interface properties, such as the zeta potential and other interfacial parameters. [Pg.77]

The zeta-potential present on the silica surface is changed by the cleaning, preconditioning, storage method, and use time. Therefore, it is important to keep the surface condition reproducible. Usually, herb drugs are made of several crude drugs, as extracts, powders, or pills. The components of herb drugs are so varied that their quality control is applied to just one or two of their index components. CE has been applied to the analyti-... [Pg.1031]

Particle Size, Polydispersity Index, and Zeta Potential Measurements... [Pg.182]

Particle size, polydispersity index, and zeta potential measurements of mannosylated liposomes are determined by Zetasizer nano ZS-90. [Pg.182]

Chief among the interfacial properties of aqueous systems that suggest the occurrence of thermal anomalies are the following index of refraction, density, activation energy for ionic conductance, rates of surface reactions, surface tension, surface potentials, membrane potentials, heats of immersion, zeta potentials, rate of nucleation, viscous flow, ion activities, proton spin lattice relaxation times, optical rotation, ultrasonic velocity and absorption, sedimentation rates, coagulation rates, and dielectric properties. [Pg.184]

It is clearly evident that numerous mineralogies are utilised for paper filling applications however, these minerals are all classified in much the same way. Particle size and size distribution, pigment brightness, refractive index, particle shape, and specific surface area are quantifiable characteristics that can be used to predict how the pigment will perform in various paper applications. To a lesser degree, particle charge, or zeta potential, plays a role in how the filler interacts with various paper chemical additives and influences the manner in which the mineral is retained in the paper web. [Pg.123]

Maa and Hsu (75) reported the formation of nano-particles by the double-emulsion method (W/OAV), using methylene chloride as an organic solvent and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) or human serum albumin (HSA) as a surfactant. Experimental parameters such as the preparation temperature, the solvent-evaporation method, the internal aqueous phase volume, the surfactant concentration, and the polymer molecular weight were investigated for particle size, the zeta potential, the residual surfactant percentage, and the poly-dispersity index. Preparation parameters leading to particles with well-defined characteristics such as an average size around 200 nm and a polydispersity index lower than 0.1 were identified. [Pg.399]

MTS (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazoIium) assay. Saraei et al. [40] investigated alginate nanoparticles containing a model protein, bovine serum albumin (BSA), by the ionotropic gelation technique. The average particle size of the BSA-loaded alginate nanoparticles was 50nm, the zeta potential was -24 mV, and the polydispersity index was 0.36. [Pg.295]

It has long been recognized that the zeta potential is a very good index of the magnitude of the interaction between colloidal particles, and this parameter is often measured to assess the stability of colloidal systems [32-34]. [Pg.267]

Polymeric micelle was prepared via a dialysis method and the size distribution and zeta potential were determined by DLS in water at a concentration of 0.5 mg/mL. The mo-nomodal peak was observed with diameter of 110.5 nm. The polydispersity index of the particle size distribution was 0.45. The zeta potential was -8.4 mV, it is more negative than micelle without folic conjugation (-2.5 mV). [Pg.86]
