It is further possible to describe a given constitution by mapping the indexed set of atoms onto the independently indexed graph. The indexed set of atoms must be partially symmetrized with regard to the element equivalence classes of the atoms and the indices of the graph with respect to its symmetry. That constitution is defined as the reference constitution in which the atomic indices a and the graph indices g match.

The constructive enumeration proposed by Kvasni ka and Pospfchal based on the GLAC generates only non-redundant canonically indexed graphs. This method does not need to check whether the produced graphs have already been constructed in the previous steps.

The Wiener index was originally defined only for acyclic graphs and was initially called the path number [6]. "The path number, W, is defined as the sum of the distances between any two carbon atoms in the molecule in terms of carbon-carbon bonds". Hosoya extended the Wiener index and defined it as the half-sum of the off diagonal elements of a distance matrix D in the hydrogen-depleted molecular graph of Eq, (15), where dij is an element of the distance matrix D and gives the shortest path between atoms i and j. 

The more quickly and completely a fiber recovers from an imposed strain, the more nearly perfectly elastic it is. The ratio of the instantaneous elastic deformation to the total deformation may be used as a criterion of elasticity (62). The integrated divergences from a theoretical graph of perfect elasticity versus elongation is also used as a criterion for determination of the elasticity index. 

Correlation methods discussed include basic mathematical and numerical techniques, and approaches based on reference substances, empirical equations, nomographs, group contributions, linear solvation energy relationships, molecular connectivity indexes, and graph theory. Chemical data correlation foundations in classical, molecular, and statistical thermodynamics are introduced. 

Molecular Connectivity Indexes and Graph Theory. Perhaps the chief obstacle to developing a general theory for quantification of physical properties is not so much in the understanding of the underlying physical laws, but rather the inabiUty to solve the requisite equations. The plethora of assumptions and simplifications in the statistical mechanics and group contribution sections of this article provide examples of this. Computational procedures are simplified when the number of parameters used to describe the saUent features of a problem is reduced. Because many properties of molecules correlate well with stmctures, parameters have been developed which grossly quantify molecular stmctural characteristics. These parameters, or coimectivity indexes, are usually based on the numbers and orientations of atoms and bonds in the molecule. 

These test results are then compared with similar test data obtained from the manufacturer on similar windings carried out during manufacture. If the manufacturer s original test results are available, the results obtained at site can be quickly compared and the condition of the insulation assessed easily and accurately. If the test facility to obtain test results at 1 minute and 10 minutes is not available, the results may also be obtained for 15 seconds and 60 seconds and a graph plotted as shown in Figure 9.5(a) to determine the polarization index.

For our present purpose we shall need to retain much more information about these graphs. Specifically, we want to find the sum of the cycle indexes of their automorphism groups. This is still basically a Polya-type problem, for which we replace T(x) by the sum of the cycle indexes of rooted trees. If T denotes the set of rooted trees, then this cycle index sum can be written Z(T ). Note that we can always recover F(x) from Z( T) for since the sum of the coefficients in the cycle index is 1, we have only to replace each occurrence of 5j by x Each cycle index for a tree on n vertices then reduces to x". This result is general and applies to any cycle index sum.
