INDEX background information

The NIH search utihty allows you to search for documents on over 100 selected Web sites that comprise the NIH-WEB-SPACE. Each of these servers is "crawled" and indexed on an ongoing basis. Your search wUl produce a fist of various documents, all of which wiU relate in some way to medium-chain acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase deficiency. The drawbacks of this approach are that the information is not organized by theme and that the references are often a mix of information for professionals and patients. Nevertheless, a large number of the fisted Web sites provide useful background information. We can only recommend this...

The Disease Facts section of the website of the UK Public Health Laboratory Service (http //www.phls.co.uk/facts/index.htm) is a valuable resource of contemporary background information on the prevalence and epidemiology of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance in the UK. 

This article attempts to cover the literature since 1967. Chemical abstracts has been searched by indexes and by CAS on line computer search from Volume 66 through Issue 8 of Volume 107. References are given prior to 1967 only when they provide essential background information. 

Under 505-60-2, you see the chemical name "l,l-Thiobis[2-chloroethane], TO-03220." The DOC is organized alphabetically by preferred chemical name, which in this case is not the trivial name "mustard gas." The entry TO-03220 is found in Volume 6. As in the Merck Index, DOC entries usually provide synonyms, basic chemical and physical data, and literature references to background information on preparation, toxicology, spectra, etc. (In the case of mustard gas, however, note that the DOC does not refer to Meyer s original synthesis.)... 

While it is doubtful that anyone is going to sit and read this book from cover to cover, the index can lead the reader to descriptions of specific titles. In other cases, the reader will go to a specific chapter. Each of these provides some background information of the subject and then details selected resources in that subject. The book is intended to be selective and evaluative, not exhaustive. Many titles have a brief description except for those titles that are self-explanatory. It is recommended that Chapter 2, General Engineering, be reviewed as most of these resources have applications for all the other chapters and many of the titles are not repeated. 

Mildren, K. W. 1976. Use of Engineering Literature. London Butterworths. One of the classic guides to the engineering literature, the book discusses the important information formats for engineering (journals, technical reports, standards, etc.) and abstracts and indexes. Individual chapters are devoted to specific disciplines. The Aeronautics and Astronautics chapter provides excellent background information on many of the subdisciplines, such as propulsion and gas dynamics, and provides a lengthy discussion of classic texts in all of these areas. 

Information about Reviews in Computational Chemistry is available in our home page on the World Wide Web. On June 28, 1995, this home page became one of the first, if not the first, devoted to a book series in chemistry. The home page has been continually updated and expanded. Background information about the scope and style are provided for potential readers and potential authors. In addition, tables of contents, cited author indexes, and subjea indexes of all volumes are provided as a free online service. The Reviews in Computational Chemistry home page is being used as needed to present color graphics, supplementary material, and errata as adjuncts to the chapters. Companies generally prepare a safety manual that summarizes and indexes their various occupational safety policies, programs, and procedures. Table 4.1 provides a sample Table of Contents for such a manual. Background information, such as the design of the firewater system, will be provided in process safety documents. Many of the topics listed in Table 4.1 are discussed in other parts of this book.
