In-line flame arrester

Fit in-line flame arresters for flammable gases and eliminate ignition sources. [Pg.273]

Pressnre taps are often specified on each side of an in-line flame arrester for checking the pressnre differential across the arrester while in service. The taps and instmment installation mnst not provide a flame bypass aronnd the flame arrester. By monitoring pressnre drop, fonling or plngging may be detected early, if there is a snfficient vapor flow rate. [Pg.115]

Detonations can only take place within the detonable limits, which fall inside the flammable limits. Mixture composition may vary widely in some systems, and this can further depend on the number of connections feeding a manifolded header. There are few cases where it can be assumed that a nondetonating flammable mixture will be produced hence, most in-line flame arrester applications involve the use of detonation flame arresters. [Pg.118]

The Canadian Standards Association Standard Z343 (CSA 1998) presents test methods for in-line and firebox flame arresters. In this standard in-line flame arresters are limited to only detonation types and firebox flame arresters are defined as flame arresters installed in an enclosnre, or system of enclosnres, where the mn-np distance is less than 1.5 meters and open to the atmosphere. Firebox flame arresters are commonly nsed on eqnip-ment designed to heat flnids in prodnction operations snch as indirect heaters, emnlsion treaters, and glycol dehydrators. The development history of this standard is presented in Section 2.3.2. [Pg.158]

With regard to in-line flame arresters the CEN standard clearly specifies minimnm operating pressnres as well as detailing of the operating pressnre on the test report. [Pg.161]

Bidirectional Flame Arrester An in-line flame arrester is considered to be bidirectional if ... [Pg.197]

In-Line Flame Arrester A flame arrester which is fitted with two pipe connections, one on each side of the flame arrester element. An in-line flame arrester may be either a deflagradon or a detonation flame arrester. An in-line arrester that is installed on a vessel vent nozzle with a short length of pipe attached to the discharge (atmospheric) side is sometimes also called a pipe-away flame arrester. [Pg.203]

The element consists of wound corrugated metal strips. The quenching gap size can be adjusted in accordance with the flash-back capability of the explosive mixture. The principle of flame quenching in small gaps is applied in end-of-line flame arresters and in-line flame arresters. [Pg.260]
