Imaging Screen coating

The use of small electrochromic points allows the construction of monochromic or multichromic flat screens. Using different conducting polymers with complementary colors on ITO-coated flexible plastics (now available commercially), camouflage cloths can be envisaged which, once connected to a video camera and a system of image treatment, would be able to mimic any surrounding, as chameleons or cuttlefish do. 

An FIM may be modified so that the imaged atom chosen for analysis can be positioned over a small aperture in the phosphor-coated screen. If the electric field is raised to a sufficiently high value, material may be removed from the surface by field evaporation. The specimen is subjected to a high-voltage pulse, which causes a number of atoms on the specimen surface to field evaporate as positive ions. Only the atom that was imaged over the aperture (or probe hole ) passes into a time-of-flight mass spectrometer, all the other atoms being blocked off by the screen. The applied... 

In SEM, the surface of the polymeric surface is scanned using an electron beam with the reflected or backscattered beam of electrons collected and displayed on a cathode ray tube screen. The image represents the surface contour of the scanned material. Because the surface must be conductive, most polymer surfaces must be overlaid with a conductive coating. Magnifications up to about 50,000 are carried out using SEM.

Most recently, we reported small molecule arrays on photoaffinity crosslinker coated gold surfaces (17). The small molecule arrays were fabricated by photoreaction, and then analyzed by SPR imaging technique. The small molecules don t have to be modified chemically for immobilization. The small molecules, which can interact with a target protein, can be screened by this methodology. Therefore, the integration of photoaffinity small molecule array and SPR imaging technique can be the first step of reverse chemical genetics. 

The cathode ray—a stream of electrons—has found a great number of applications. Most notably, a traditional television set (not the modern, thin, LCD screens) is a cathode ray tube with one end widened out into a phosphor-coated screen. Signals from the television station cause electrically charged plates in the tube to control the direction of the ray such that images are traced onto the screen. 

As we have already mentioned, a monitor contains a CRT. But how does it work Basically, a device called an electron gun shoots electrons toward the back side of the monitor screen (see Figure 6.19). The back of the screen is coated with special chemicals (called phosphors) that glow when electrons strike them. This beam of electrons scans across the monitor from left to right and top to bottom to create the image.
