These references also contain the procedures for preparing the series S( - )Cla by reaction of sulfur mono- and dichloride together with various hydrogen persulfides, H2S, where a =1-4. [Pg.121]

The second class of substrates, which form electron acceptors by breaking a low energy bond, are very numerous, and are the most profitable for study. There are two subgroups, those such as the halogens, hydrazine (18), hydrogen persulfide (i), and thiocyanogen (11) which split symmetrically to give two electron... [Pg.71]

Crude perhydrc en sulfide, crude hydrogen persulfide, hydrogen polysulfide, or just crude oil. For the nomenclature of chain compounds of sulfur, see F. Feher and W. Laue, Z. Naturforsch. 8b, 11 (1953). [Pg.349]

Now the particular interest we have in the present discussion is in the organic compounds containing sulfur corresponding to the two levels —2 and — 1 that is, a mercaptan or a thioether, and a dialkyl disulfide, or to complete the analogy an alkyl hydrogen persulfide. [Pg.5]

Inhibition of monoamine oxidase has been proposed as a possible mechanism underlying the hydrogen sulfide-mediated disruption of neurotransmission in brain stem nuclei controlling respiration (Warenycia et al. 1989a). Administration of sodium hydrosulfide, an alkali salt of hydrogen sulfide, has been shown to increase brain catecholamine and serotonin levels in rats. It has also been suggested that persulfide formation resulting from sulfide interaction with tissue cystine and cystinyl peptides may underlie some... [Pg.92]

Considering all of these observations, a possible mechanism for this interesting biochemical reaction is shown in Figure 26. Central to this proposed mechanism is the involvement of a persulfide (R-S-SH), a thioaldehyde and a protein-bound disulfide in the proposed reaction mechanism. Persulfides are known to be widely involved in the biosynthesis of many important sulfur containing metabolites. Here they function as a protein-bound nucleophilic sulfur that can add to an aldehyde and be reductively released from the protein to form the thioaldehyde (reactions 2-3, Figure 26). The persulfide could be formed by the transfer of hydrogen sulfide to a disulfide (reaction 1, Figure 26). [Pg.739]
