Hydraulic power generation

In nearly all mechanical power applications in the oil and gas industry it is necessary to transmit the power generated by a prime mover to an operation (e.g., drawworks of a drilling rig, or a production pumping system). The transmission of rotary power to such operation elements is carried out by a power transmission system. Mechanical power transmission is typically carried out by power betting systems, chain systems, gear systems and by hydraulic systems, or some combination of these three [1,5]. 

Y. S. Tang. Ph.D has more than 35 years of experience in the field of thermal and fluid flow. His research interests have covered aspects of thermal hydraulics that are related to conventional and nonconventional power generation systems, with an emphasis on nuclear reactor design and analysis that focuses on liquld-meta -cooled reactors. Dr. Tang is co-author of Radioactive Waste Management published by Taylor 8 Francis, and Thermal Analysis of Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactors, He received a B5. from National Central University In China and an MS. in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He earned his Ph.D. 

To measure the power generated by the engine, a hydraulic brake has been installed. A load cell attached to the brake measures the torque. 

I think of reliables as sources, like those that feed most of today s electricity generating plants, including coal, uranium, and hydraulic power, that deliver energy whenever called upon, independent of time of day or weather. Sometimes, as in the case of electricity generation, this means at almost constant output. At other times, as in the case of the family automobile, where oil is the fuel source, it means when we want to drive somewhere or want an extra shot of power to accelerate away from the stoplight.

Chapter 22 "Heat Transfer, Thermal Hydraulic, and Safety Analysis" and Chapter 23 "Thermodynamics and Power Cycles" are analytical tools used by engineers to evaluate reactor and power-producing systems. Heat transfer and thermal hydraulics are not only important in the operation of nuclear reactors, they are also critical in the evaluation of how the systems will respond under upset conditions. The chapter on thermodynamics is included to show how the energy generated by the reactor is transferred by the reactor cooling system to the turbine power generating system used to produce electricity. 

The term Off-highway includes a great variety of diesel engine applications like propulsion of ships, mining trucks, harvesters, trains, power generation and pump drives, e.g. for hydraulic fracturing (see Fig. 2.1). In a broader sense, even power generation and pump drives need to be considered mobile, as they are often mounted into containers or onto trailers.
