Hundred poisons

As the above cases demonstrate, carbon monoxide poisoning can arise from quite unexpected sources and can be serious. Indirect poisoning from this source of the gas is probably relatively uncommon, but direct poisoning with carbon monoxide is probably the most common type of accidental poisoning that affects the general population. There are probably several hundred poisonings from carbon monoxide every year in the UK alone, some of which are fatal. Some mild cases may well go undetected as the main symptom is a headache. [Pg.187]

The elixir will be ready in one hundred days. If you ingest one ounce of it, you will become an immortal. If you do not yet wish to leave the world, and want to become an Immortal of Earth [dixian) or an Immortal of Water (shuixian), merely perform the purification practices and observe the interdictions for one hundred days. If [instead] you intend to rise to heaven, ingest it after you abstain from cereals for one year. If you ingest half an ounce, you will live a long life free from death. The ten thousand injuries and the hundred poisons will not harm you. You will be able to support your family and hold an official position all your wishes will become true, and nothing will be interdicted. Later, if you wish to rise to heaven, you can accomplish the purification practices and observe the interdictions, ingest an ounce, and fly away as an immortal. (Baopu zi, 4.82-83)... [Pg.115]

Once used as an arrow poison It IS hundreds of times more powerful than morphine in relieving pain It is too toxic to be used as a drug however)... [Pg.925]

Most refinery/petrochemical processes produce ethylene that contains trace amounts of acetylene, which is difficult to remove even with cryogenic distillation. Frequently it is necessary to lower the acetylene concentration from several hundreds ppm to < 10 ppm in order to avoid poisoning catalysts used in subsequent ethylene consuming processes, such as polymeri2ation to polyethylene. This can be accompHshed with catalytic hydrogenation according to the equation. [Pg.199]

The accumulation of OCPs causes poisoning in expectant women [A37, A45]. Four hundred three Ukrainian women, aged 19-30 who had recently given birth were examined in two groups, one having had contact with DDT, the other not. DDT was found in 270 (74.6%) of 370 samples of breast milk... [Pg.67]

I was being poisoned from the toxins in my environment. I finally started to figure that out after I went to live in a girlfriend s apartment while she was out of town. During that time I started to feel much better, but I didn t improve one hundred percent because I took some of the contaminated goods with me from my house. [Pg.131]

Oregon Cult Food Poisoning — Two members of an Oregon cult headed by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh cultivated Salmonella (food poisoning) bacteria and used them to contaminate restaurant salad bars in an attempt to affect the outcome of a local election. Although hundreds of people became ill and 45 were hospitalized, there were no fatalities. [Pg.31]

Thus began the marketing of a therapeutic solution that mixed two chemical compounds, one the first drug to combat effectively bacterial infections, the other a powerful poison. The prescribing of Elixir Sulfanilamide caused over a hundred deaths, many of them of children provoked national panic and spurred a desperate effort, led by the Food and Drug Administration, to track down the lethal "elixir" and to remove it from drugstores and homes. In the longer run, the Elixir... [Pg.116]
