These kinds of stores carry hobby/craft supplies, gimmicky science fair projects, ant farms and a low assortment of basic scienceware products such as beakers, thermometers, scales, rubber stoppers and most of the basic chemicals such as acids, bases and solvents. These places are listed in the chemicals section of any big city s yellow pages and are relatively safe places to get most of the basic lab necessities. The drawback is that they are really expensive and don t sell very large quantities of any chemical. It is possible to have these places special order a needed chemical as long as it s not a controlled chemical. 

Additional notes - Nitromethane is found in high performance RC model fuel, usually as a mixture with methanol and various strange lubricants. One particular brand, found at a local hobby shop, was 55% nitromethane. 

Significant quantities of nitromethane find use as fuel in drag racing and as a hobby fuel. In addition, nitromethane is used in explosive appHcations, particularly in shaped charges for specialized appHcations. It has the advantage of not in itself being classified as an explosive, but it can be made cap-sensitive on-site, thus simplifying the transport of the explosive system to remote locations. 

VOCs are emitted indoors by building materials (e.g., paints, pressed wood products, adhesives, etc.), equipment (photocopying machines, printers, etc.), cleaning products, stored fuels and automotive products, hobby supplies, and combustion activities (cooking, unvented space heating, tobacco smoking, indoor vehicle use).

The isotope dilution principle, first employed by Hevesy and Hobbie (133) in 1932 for the determination of lead in ores, was applied by Schoenheimer et al. (241) to the determination of amino acids. [Shemin and Foster (248) have reviewed this topic.] An N15-amino acid derivative was added to a protein hydrolyzate, a sample of the amino acid to be determined was isolated and purified, the excess N15 in this product was estimated with the mass spectrograph, and the grams of amino acid originally present were calculated from Equation 2.

This development has taken place remarkably quickly over the past thirty years. In that period the first attempts to arrive at a proven analytical accuracy were made.
