Hobbies, loss

Loss of interest in hobbies, social events, or recreation that used to be important to the person... [Pg.57]

Multiple chemical sensitivity involves coping with multiple losses. The loss of a safe home is one of the most devastating. Some other common losses touched upon in this collection of stories are selfesteem, relationships, mobility, careers, hobbies, access to public places and community events, transportation, tolerance to foods, and worship services. What I have tried to capture are the strength and grace that come from enduring and mourning these deep losses, and coming out the other side. [Pg.13]

A major depressive episode is characterized by a persistent, diminished ability to experience pleasure. A loss of interest and pleasure in usual activities, hobbies, or work is common. Patients appear sad or... [Pg.1237]

Increased gross C fixation was found early in the growing season in tussock tundra after 3.5 years of warming, but the net ecosystem production still was negative because of a higher growing season respiratory C loss (Hobbie and Chapin, 1998). Also, measurements in the Swedish treeline heath after seven years of treatment showed a mid-season C loss in warmed plots relative to... [Pg.147]

A comparison of the initial model (with N fixers, and with versus without alternative pathways of N loss) with a revised version of the model that includes these three additional constraints to N2 fixation is displayed in Figure 3. Neither the additional constraints on N2 fixation alone (Fig. 3c) nor the alternative pathways of N-loss alone are sufficient to drive more than a marginal N limitation on biomass, at equilibrium (Fig. 3b). However, the combination (Fig. 3d) of both alternative loss pathways and additional constraints on N, fixation yields a system that is strongly limited by available N at equilibrium. For completeness, one would need to carry out a similar analysis of nonsymbiotic N, function. Some of the same mechanisms (e.g., energy cost of N, fixation, P limitation to N2 fixers) could be important, and some others (e.g., decomposers might not be limited by N supply, even in sites where NPP is N limited) could also contribute Vitousek and Hobbie 2000. [Pg.222]

The link between noise and hearing loss has been established for several centuries, but efforts to control or eliminate the basic causes for occupational hearing loss have only existed for the last few decades. Possibly, this could be attributed to the fact that occupational settings represent only some of the risk factors associated with hearing loss. Employee lifestyle outside the workplace, such as hobbies, can also contribute to NIHL ... [Pg.298]
