Height allowance

Once packing heights are determined in other sections from HETP (distillation) or Koa (absorption), the height allowances for the internals (from Figure 1) can be added to determine the overall column height. Column diameter is determined in sections on capacity and pressure drop for the selected packing (random dumped or structured). [Pg.76]

The height allowance depends upon the style of collector used. The height can be as little as 2ft or as much as 5 ft (if the collector is 3 ft thick). ... [Pg.83]

Without a manway in the section the height allowance will run 3 ft (2-ft space plus a 1-ft thick redistributor). With a manway the allowance will be 4ft. ... [Pg.84]

Height allowance A percentage added to heat loss calculations to compensate for the vertical temperature gradient. [Pg.1447]

Phosphorus pentoxide reacts with moisture in the air to form phosphoric acid. WP munitions were used by U.S. military forces and their allies to mark targets and to provide smoke screen coverage for troops and equipment in combat zones. These munitions were produced primarily by the dip-fill or wet-fill method illustrated by Figure 1. The method is called dip-fill because empty munition bodies are dipped below the molten phosphorus level in an open tank until the munitions are filled with liquid phosphorus. The method is also called wet-fill because a water overlay is maintained over the liquid phosphorus (in the fill tank) to prevent spontaneous combustion of the chemical element and because the filled munition will have a slight water overlay (up to 1/8" column height allowed). [Pg.168]

API RP 2001 Largest tank volume Suitable to provide drainage. 1.8 m (6 ft.) recommended, other heights allowed. [Pg.108]

For a given point in the interior, draw the perpendicular line segments a, b, c to the three edges. Also, draw the (heavy) lines to the apices that divide the triangle into three smaller triangles ta, tb, tc, as shown. The formula for the area of a triangle (one-half the base times the height) allows us to write... [Pg.274]

The values of Hmix calculated from the Xf(n,t) function [120] are presented in Fig. 10.14. For a Volgonate foam the maximum allowed height should not exceed 8-12 mm within the temperature range from -50°C to -10°C. Addition of dodecanol leads to a substantial increase in the limiting height allowed (curve 4). [Pg.710]

The NFPA 30B classification system is used to specify or determine the need for certain requirements for building ceiling height, allowable quantities, storage arrangement, automatic sprinkler protection, and building construction features. [Pg.15]

The resulting TREF curves obtained with the first series of blends is shown in Fig. 35. Simple use of the high temperature peak height allows a calculation of blend composition from a calibration curve of peak height versus blend composition. The results for the three series of blends are shown in Table S and clearly there is excellent agreement between calculated and actual composition even for the differing LLDPE components. [Pg.38]

Downcomer Backup Limit The maximum downcomer liquid height allowable is set by the tray spacing and outlet weir height. Downcomer backup flooding occurs when the liquid froth in the downcomer reaches the tray above. Assume the maximum backup limit as 80% and the froth density q) = 0.6 (Kister, 1992). Applying equation (12.23) yields... [Pg.272]

After the molten tube exits the die gap, it travels upward before the internal air pressure expands the tube into a bubble. This upward distance, or stalk height, allows the melt to cool slightly and orient axially. As a result, the longer stalks increase film strength in both the flow, or machine direction (MD), and the perpendicular, or transverse direc-... [Pg.371]

If the injected volumes are strictly constant, the samples are pure and the detector response is linear, the accuracy of this method is better than that of the previous method. Utilization of peak surface area rather than height allows extension of the method to impure samples, provided that the amount of impurity in the gas phase does not depend on temperature. In cases where the impurities have a similar chemical structure but different retention times, amounts of up to 10% are probably negligible [17]. [Pg.118]

Reduced plate height allows us to compare the efficiency of columns with different particle sizes or different internal diameters (in open capillary columns). [Pg.11]

Under manual operation, the reactor became unstable. At 1 07 AM, the power output suddenly dropped to 0.03 gigawatts (GW), far less than the specified minimum of 0.70 GW. To generate more power, the operators raised the control rods to the maximum height allowed by regulations. Diatlov ordered them to raise the rods further. When the operators balked, Diatlov insisted, and the operators eomplied. [Pg.404]

Weigh 1 g sample into a 25 cm measuring cylinder, add 10 ml solvent, seal with a serum cap and shake to dissolve. Chromatograph 5 micro litres at a range of x 100 and suitable attenuations. Measure the retention distances (injection point to peak apex) and peak heights of the n-pentane and neo-hexane. For each, calculate the product of retention distance and peak height, allowing for any attenuation factor. [Pg.219]
