To try to separate the oxidation of adsorbate from that of bulk methanol, a droplet cell, shown in Fig. 3-2, was used. A working electrode, platiniun wire, is dipped into an electrolyte droplet on a capillary, which is then connected to the electrolyte reservoir. The top portion of the capillary was covered with Teflon FEP held by Teflon heat shrinking tube. The counter electrode, platinum wire, is in the capillary and its tip reaches just below the droplet. The reference electrode, R. H. E., is constructed between the reservoir and the droplet. 

Fittings, barbed fittings and unions from different suppliers or homemade devices are used to connect the components of the manifold. They should provide suitable linking conditions to avoid loss of the handled solutions and/or the ingress of air bubbles. I bolted the hydro unit to redwood beams straddling a small creek near the house (its temporary home for one year of service to assess noise abatement). The two 6 wires were looped up and cut to reach the alternator. I crimped and soldered heavy lugs to both 6 power wires, added heat-shrink tubing over the exposed wires, and secured the respective lugs to the alternator s terminals— black at the positive, white at the negative. 

There are two major markets for irradiated film. The first is packaging film for food and small parts. The irradiated film has improved strength and reduced perme-abihty. When oriented the film shrinks to conform to the contours of the product and has crystal clarity. The second market is heat shrink tubing for electrical connectors. Here the polyethylene is used together with cross-linked polyethylene to form a protective sleeve. The interlayer is polyethylene, which, when heated, flows to fill voids and completely encapsulates the wire. The outer layer is cross-linked polyethylene, which shrinks to form a compact protective sheet over the connector.

A ground system is only as good as the methods used to interconnect the component parts [9]. Do not use soldered-only connections outside the equipment building. Crimped/brazed and exothermic Cadwelded) connections are preferred. (Cadweld is a registered trademark of Erico Corp.) To make a proper bond, all metal surfaces must be cleaned, any finish removed to bare metal, and surface preparation compound applied. Protect all connections from moisture by appropriate means, usually sealing compound and heat-shrink tubing.

Polyethylene (T = 135 °C, Tg < T oond may be lightly crosslinked by a chemical reaction with an organic peroxide at 175 °C. Heat-shrink tubing is made from such a crosslinked polyethylene. When heated at room temperature to about 150 °C, its diameter shrinks by a factor of three or four. Explain the thermal history required to make and use this material and the driving force for shrinkage when heat is applied.
