MSL GMS and ogu INRA CMS pollination control systems which can be used to produce commercial quantities of hybrid HEAR seed are being used to produce hybrid HEAR cultivars (Eriedt and Snowdon, 2009 McVetty et al., 2009). The winter HEAR cultivars currently available are MSL hybrid HEAR types, which exploit the natural heterosis known to occur in B. napus (Brandle and McVetty, 1990). Spring hybrid HEAR cultivars will also exploit the heterosis for seed yield available in HEAR cultivars/lines (Cuthbert et al., 2009). Seed yield increases have been accompanied by simultaneous improvements in adaptation, disease resistance and seed quality for both spring and winter habit HEAR cultivars, and herbicide tolerance for spring habit HEAR cultivars (McVetty et al., 2009). Breeding for local adaptation in spring habit HEAR has focused on early maturity in Canada, while that in winter habit HEAR has focused on winter hardiness (McVetty et al., 2(X)9 Eriedt and Snowdon, 2009). [Pg.120]

Dry-battery mercury anodes are pressed compacts of zinc—mercury amalgam. They were first developed and produced during World War II for walkie-talkie communica tion systems. Practically all hearing aids employ this type of battery in the 1990s. [Pg.190]

Recycling of antimony provides a large proportion of the domestic supply of antimony. Secondary antimony is obtained from the treatment of antimony-hearing lead and tin scrap such as battery plates, type metal, beating metal, antimonial lead, etc. The scrap are charged iato blast furnaces, reverberatory furnaces, or rotary furnaces, and an impure lead bulHon or lead alloy is produced. Pure lead or antimony is then added to meet the specifications of the desired lead—antimony alloy. [Pg.196]

Noise monitoring is usually located in the HASP as part of the monitoring program. Noise monitoring should be performed in accordance with acceptable practices. Typically, noise levels are monitored in the field with either a Type I or Type II sound level meter (SLM). Noise dosimeter readings can also be obtained to determine the percent (%) noise dose. Noise levels and % doses measured are then compared to limits listed in OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.95, Hearing Conservation [3]. [Pg.61]

Most of the reactions considered in Chapter 3 involved pure substances reacting with each other. However, most of the reactions you will carry out in the laboratory or hear about in lecture take place in water (aqueous) solution. Beyond that, most of the reactions that occur in the world around you involve ions or molecules dissolved in water. For these reasons, among others, you need to become familiar with some of the more important types of aqueous reactions. These include—... [Pg.75]

It is so universally applied that it may be found in combination with metal oxide cathodes (e.g., HgO, AgO, NiOOH, Mn02), with catalytically active oxygen electrodes, and with inert cathodes using aqueous halide or ferricyanide solutions as active materials ("zinc-flow" or "redox" batteries). The cell (battery) sizes vary from small button cells for hearing aids or watches up to kilowatt-hour modules for electric vehicles (electrotraction). Primary and storage batteries exist in all categories except that of flow-batteries, where only storage types are found. Acidic, neutral, and alkaline electrolytes are used as well. The (simplified) half-cell reaction for the zinc electrode is the same in all electrolytes ... [Pg.199]

A great variety of aluminium-silicate hearing rocks, plastic when w et, hard when dry. Us in pottery, stoneware, tile, bricks, cements. Tillers and abrasives. Kaolin is one type of clay. Some clay deposits may include appreciable amounts of quartz. Commercial grades of clays may contain up to 20% quartz. [Pg.45]

By way of a specific example let us consider erucic acid. The main commercial source of erucic acid is a specially bred form of rape seed (HEAR) as pointed out above. With European consumption being around 60 000 tpa almost 40 000 ha of land are used to grow rapeseed for erucic acid production in Europe. The high level of erucic found in this type of rape seed oil make it unsuitable for human consumption, owing to the indigestibility of such large amounts of this acid. Erucic acid is also the major fatty acid to be found in nasturtium and crambe seeds (up to 75% and 56% respectively), and it is also found in the salad herb, rocket. [Pg.188]

These types of batteries are available in button and prismatic forms. Their main application is as power sources for hearing aids. Other applications include various specialty uses in the notebook computers, electronic pagers, portable battery chargers, various medical devices, the wireless crew communicator systems [18, 19]. [Pg.163]

From your prior study of chemistry, the hybrid orbital types sp and sp3 used to describe these cases are probably familiar. It is not unusual to hear someone say that CH4 is tetrahedral because the carbon atom is sp3 hybridized. However, CH4 is tetrahedral because that structure represents the configuration of lowest energy, and our way of describing a set of orbitals that matches that geometry is by combining 95... [Pg.95]

Two other myosin types have been implicated in hearing and vestibular function [62]. The defect in the Snell s waltzer mouse was found to be a mutation in a myosin VI gene that produces degeneration of the cochlea and vestibular apparatus. Myosin VI is localized to the cuticular plate of the hair cell under stereocilia. Similarly, mutations in a myosin VII gene are responsible for the shaker-1 mouse and several human genetic deafness disorders. This myosin, myosin Vila, is found in a band near the base of the stereocilia distinct from distributions of myosin ip and myosin VI. [Pg.498]

Regarding schools, immediately after teachers are trained on the emergency preparedness plan, they should train students on how to correctly respond to the various types of alarm systems (e.g., fire, radiation, and chemical) in the building. Teachers should use cassette tapes, compact discs, or videotapes to allow the students to hear the differences in the sounds of the various types of alarms. [Pg.148]

Binding of C02 takes place in aqueous medium by the carboxylation reaction of ribulose-diphosphate (RuDP) with the formation of 3-phospho-glycerine acid (PGA) - table 5. Water molecule and radical C=0 at the distances of molecular interaction have quite similar values of PE-parameters for forming the general structural grouping of dimeric composite type. Total PE-parameter of water molecule and radical C=0 hearly equals PE-parameter of C02 and therefore the molecules of C02 and H20 join RuBP with the formation of two radicals COOH b PGA (table 5). In ferment RuDP- carboxylase, Mg atoms and 0" ions (5.4867 eV and 4.755 eV) play an active role, their PE-parameters similar to PE-parameter of radical COOH. [Pg.99]
