In this chapter, we consider reactors for fluid-solid reactions in which the solid particles are in motion (relative to the wall of the vessel) in an arbitrary pattern brought about by upward flow of the fluid. Thus, the solid particles are neither in ideal flow, as in the treatment in Chapter 22, nor fixed in position, as in Chapter 21. We focus mainly on the fluidized-bed reactor as an important type of moving-particle reactor. Books dealing with fluidization and fluidized-bed reactors include those by Kunii and Levenspiel (1991), Yates (1983), and Davidson and Harrison (1963). 

Bouin s fixative has been used traditionally for the fixation of fetuses prior to fixed visceral examination. However, safety concerns over the use of picric acid have resulted in the use of alternatives such as Harrison s fixative (18). 

Bonin s fixative (picro-formol, 10% formaldehyde) is used in the Wilson technique. Harrison s fixative (8 volumes of 95% ethanol, 1 volume of acetic acid, 1 volume of glycerol, 2 volumes of 40% formaldehyde, 7.5 volumes of saline) may be used to fix rat and mouse whole body for internal examination. Harrison-D fixative (Harrison s fixative with Kristenson for decalcification, 2.01 L of formic acid, 0.43 kg of formiate sodium and 7.99 L of water, pH 2.2-2.7) is used to fix rabbit and minipig heads for internal examination. The tissues are then transferred to Harrison s fixative for storage. 

Most phase I NAPs provide for NE allocations based on a general emission rate and predicted activity level. For example in The Netherlands (NL), new entrants are allocated allowances based on projected output or fixed cap factor multiplied by uniform emission rate in line with that of a combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT). In France, Germany and Poland, C02-intensive power generators, such as coal-fired installations, receive the highest number of allowances per kW installed. The literature highlights the risk that NE provisions can create distortions (Harrison and Radov, 2002). In order to illustrate how these rules can impact electricity prices and C02 emissions in our GB simulations, we focus on two approaches one based on a uniform benchmark and one based on a fuel-specific benchmark. In both cases the forecast capacity factor of new entrants is fixed at 60%.

These considerations argue against the interpretation of the optical spectra in terms of the bonding unit used by Pantclides and Harrison (1976) to obtain parameters W2 and IT,. In February 1971 the Bell labs and Rutgers group followed [22] with the manuscript Hyperfine Interactions and Geometry of Methylene. They estimated the %s character from hyperfine interaction and used %s versus angle data from Harrison [15] to fix angle at 137°. 

Kato et al. and Davidson and Harrison have reviewed available correlations for both heat and mass transfer coefficients in gas-solid fluidized beds. Some investigators have proposed that the same correlation can be applied " for both fixed and fluidized beds by proper choice of the fluid velocity term. Further discussions of mass transfer in fluidized beds can be finind in Davidson and Harrison and Kunii and Levenspiel. Because of the difficulty of operating small laboratory fluidized beds under conditions comparable to those of a full-scale unit, the applicability of many of these studies may be questionable.

The U-shaped tube method is used for thermoreversible gels with relatively low modulus ( 100dyne/cm ). As shown in Fig. 4, by preparing a gel in such a way that there are differences in meniscus height, the melting point is determined fix)m the change in height. In the experiment reported by Harrison et al. [16], the amount of the sample used was as little as 0.3 ml when a capillary 0.25-1 mm in diameter is used at the bottom of the tube and the distance between the two vertical tubes is 20 mm. 

The fixed set of TB parameters are obtained from the universal scheme proposed by Harrison (1980) suitably scaled with respect to the interatomic distance (Andriotis and Menon 1998).
