Field Studies in Forest Streams. Insecticide treatments The fate and persistence of fenitrothion and aminocarb were studied in 1982 in small headwater trout streams within the Nipisiguit River watershed near Popple Depot, New Brunswick. Three study streams were treated with different insecticide tank mixes, receiving two applications at a 6 to 8 day interval sprayed by Agcat or Agtruck aircraft equipped with Micronair spray emission systems. Each stream later received a point source injection by hand-held sprayer of the same insecticide tank mix which had been previously applied to it from the air. [Pg.256]

Formulation Application. The application of the formulations in the garden is summarized in Table IV. The amounts of wettable powder and aqueous suspension solutions applied from a pressurized hand-held sprayer by the various volunteers was pretty constant over the 15 minute period. Ue had, for better or worse, kept the pressure in the tank at a nearly constant level the sprayer was usually pumped up once during the spray period. The mean volume sprayed was 2.8 L for com and 2.9 L for beans (which is approximately 0.75 of a gallon). The range of the volumes dispensed was 1.7 to 3.6 L. In noting the ranges, there was little difference between the two formulations, as expected. There was also little difference in the ranges of spray volume dispensed on beans verses corn. [Pg.144]

For a few tissue samples, the matrix deposition can be performed manually. A matrix solution is sprayed onto the tissue section with a hand-held thin layer chromatography (TLC) sprayer or an artist airbrush. The reproducibility of manual matrix deposition is an issue. When the manual sprayer is used, the MALDI target plate with the tissue section is held vertically about 15-25 cm from the sprayer nozzle. It is recommended to spray multiple coats of matrix across the tissue section and each coating cycle consists of passing the sprayer two to hve times across the tissue section and allowing the tissue to dry for about 1-5 min. This process is usually repeated between 10 and 20 cycles. [Pg.407]

Mixing/loading/application - this work activity involves all of the tasks involved in the application of the pesticide. This is the most common activity for farmers who apply their own pesticides. Commercial, for hire, applicators typically have separate tasks. There are also workers in greenhouse operations and residential settings where the typical equipment may be backpack sprayers, hand-held tank sprayers, push-type applicators and belly-grinders. [Pg.16]
