Hand-held model

Sprayers are the most common pesticide application equipment. They ate standard equipment for nearly every professional pesticide applicator and are used in every type of pest control operation. Sprayers range in size and complexity from simple, hand-held models to intricate machines weighing several tons. [Pg.316]

Molecular formulas give information only about what makes up a compound. The molecular formula for aspirin is C9H8O4. Additional information can be shown by using different models, such as the ones for aspirin shown in Figure 17. A structural formula shows how the atoms are connected, but the two-dimensional model does not show the molecule s true shape. The distances between atoms and the angles between them are more realistic in a three-dimensional ball-and-stick model. However, a space-filling model attempts to represent the actual sizes of the atoms and not just their relative positions. A hand-held model can provide even more information than models shown on the flat surface of the page. [Pg.42]

Docking a ligand into the receptor to produce a model of the ligand-receptor complex can be performed on an interactive graphics workstation. Nevertheless, the use of traditional hand-held models remains helpful in certain instances. ... [Pg.345]

There is also a center of symmetry. Although it is probably not obvious, there are also three-fold rotoinversion axes coaxial with the three-fold axes (a hand-held model is almost essential to see this). The highest order axes are the three four-fold axes that mn through the middle of each face. (The axis goes through the sodium ion at the center of the face in Figure 41 below.)... [Pg.68]

Build hand-held models to prove that one isomer is not superposable on the other. [Pg.40]

Since the beginnings of organic chemistry, somewhere in the middle of the nineteenth century, chemists have sought to visualize the three-dimensional characteristics of the all-but-invisible molecules that participate in chemical reactions. Concrete models that could be held in the hand were developed. Many kinds of model sets, such as framework, ball-and-stick, and space- filling models, were devised to allow people to visualize the spatial and directional relationships within molecules. These hand-held models were interactive, and they could be readily manipulated in space. [Pg.160]

Many sizes and form factors of receivers are manufactured. Portable personal types include pocket-sized or hand-held models with picture sizes of 2 in diagonal for monochrome and 4-6 in for color. Large screen sizes are available in monochrome where low cost and Kghtweight are prime requirements. However, except where portabihty is important, the majority of television program viewing is in color. The 19- and 27-in sizes dominate the market. [Pg.1727]

There are few models with automatic test capability. Testing is usually limited to hand held devices only 2 meters (7 ft.) from the detector or directly on the lens test unit. It can be ineffective if ice forms on the lens. It is sensitive to modulated emissions from hot black body sources. Most of the detectors have fixed sensitivities. The standard being under five seconds to a petroleum fire of 0.1 square meter (1.08 sq. ft.) located 20 meters (66 ft.) from the device. Response times increase as the distance increases. It cannot be used in locations where the ambient temperatures could reach up to 75 °C (167 °F). It is resistant to contaminants that could affect a UV detector. Its response is dependent on fires possessing a flicker characteristic so that detection of high pressure gas flames may be difficult. [Pg.181]

The recommended profile is based on the model prediction for the average k-factor of the whole cell, but it is modified according to operating experience, which indicates which areas of the cell are subject to the quickest build-up of thick mercury. In the field the operators used hand-held k-factor probes to set the cell up according to the results from the model. [Pg.268]

Nozzle pressure is the optimum pressure needed to form an effective stream. Fog type nozzles typically operate at 100 psi, although some models are designed to operate at lower pressures. Hand-held solid bore nozzles typically operate at 50 psi. Solid bore master streams can operate at pressures as high as 80 psi. Pressures that exceed these values will make hose streams less effective in putting out the fire. [Pg.261]

Models of molecules have been around for a long time. Chemists have used hand-held molecular models to help them visualize conformation,... [Pg.363]

A hand-held field PID consists of an air uptake pump, an ultraviolet (UV) ionization lamp, a photo multiplier, and a readout device. The air drawn in by the pump passes along the lamp, where organic compounds are ionized with UV light. The resultant current is converted into a signal proportional to the number of ionized molecules. The UV lamp is calibrated with a standard (isobutylene in air), and the readout device provides the vapor concentrations in parts per million-volume (ppm-v). UV lamps are sensitive to the presence of moisture high water vapor content in air will suppress their ionizing action. Some PID models have a moistureabsorbing filter that can be attached to the instrument s inlet. [Pg.174]

Molecular modeling in the minds of some scientists also includes the examination of hand-held... [Pg.225]

Several other types of hand-held vacuum samplers have been used to collect dust from residential surfaces. One of these, the Baltimore Repair and Maintenance Study Cyclone Sampler (BRMCS) (Farfel et al 1994), has been evaluated against the HVFS. The BRMCS uses the same cyclone and catch bottle assembly as the HVS3, but a different nozzle and vacuum source. The vacuumed dust is sucked into the cyclone via a semi-rigid Tygon hose (2.54-cm o.d.) that is notched on the sampling end to simulate a nozzle. Suction is provided by a small, hand-held vacuum device (Royal Hand Vac , Model 553, 2 A). The collection efficiency for the BRMCS was determined to be 44.1 % n =6, s = 3.8) for plush uylou carpet, 61.1 % (n = 6, = 6.7) for level loop carpeting, 71.8-87.8 % n =6, s = 3.5) for upholstery and 84.7 % n = 3, s = 2.3) for wood surfaces (USEPA, 1996b). [Pg.101]

New pocket portals, using WAP or Blue Tooth technology, is also becoming an attractive option. However, a cautionary note needs to be registered with the heightened importance of system security and the risks of transmitting data over open systems. Biometrics and encryption are potential solutions. Also, audit trails need to be consistent across the range of software models adopted, especially client-server architectures and hand-held IPCs. [Pg.618]
