A cautionary note

SCE increases absolute colony number and surviving fraction of CEU-E, CEU-G, and CEU-GM in kradiated human BM. In the first phase, the performance of the instrumentation used for the method is demonstrated. Scheme 11.5 gives some examples of these acylation reactions. Entry 1 is an example of a chloromethylation reaction. Entry 2 is a formylation using carbon monoxide. Entry 3 is an example of formylation via to-chloromethyl ether. A cautionary note on this procedure is the potent carcinogenicity of this reagent. Patients on monoamine oxidose (MAO) inhibitors are likely to develop hypertensive crises if given a stimulant. 

A Turkish study examined the effect of freeze-storing peeled, blanched then fried potatoes and found a 10% loss of vitamin C after 6 months of storage at — 18°C (Tosun and Yiicecan, 2008). However, a 51% loss was caused by the pre-freezing operations, which sounds a cautionary note about the importance of how potatoes are handled during processing. Some of our own...
