SOLID STATE HALOGEN LEAK DETECTOR - An electronic leak detector for all halogen, related refrigerants. 

If the odor of solvent vapors is detected in the vicinity of the effluent purge gas, the equipment requires additional purging. A halogen leak detector may be used with chlorinated solvents for determining when a vessel, piping, or component is adequately purged. The test method should be agreed upon by the manufacturer and the purchaser. 

Carbon tetrafluoride may be detected by bubble formation after applying a soap solution to the suspected leak area. Minute leaks may be detected by using a halogen leak detector. If the leak should occur in a cylinder or cylinder valve, move the cylinder to a well-ventilated area and contact the supplier. 

Even at the very lowest concentrations, sulfur hexafluoride can be detected by halogen leak detectors. Sulfur hexafluoride is therefore useful as an additive to other gases as a tracer compound in leak detection. Uses as a constituent of air for meteorological measurements have also been described. 

Although there are other leak detectors and leak detection techniques that rely on detection of a change in gas, none have enjoyed the success of the mass spectrometer tuned to helium. After making a connection, check for leaks by placing a few drops of ethanol, an electronic leak detector, or a high boiling polypropylene glycol solution around the joint. If bubbles appear, then a leak is present. Do not use a soap solution (phosphates) or other leak detectors (halogens).
