Gunned linings

All of these materials-brick, mortars and membranes-will be fully discussed in later chapters along with (1) Castables, grouts, and polymer concretes (2) Monolithics (troweled, sprayed and gunned linings) and (3) Expansion joint compounds, plus rigid plastic fabrications such as polyethylene, polypropylene and PVC. These components made from a whole host of materials are effectively used in a wide variety of industrial applications requiring superior chemical and thermal resistance. [Pg.45]

Gunned linings, which are covered in other sections of this book. [Pg.264]

In contrast to the basic refractory services provided by their predecessors, today s gunited or cast liners are much more dependent upon the ability of the applied material to resist possible chemical attack. Additionally, the fact that the cementitious materials utilized in these applications are somewhat absorptive and brittle causes another type of concern which should also be considered when they are specified for "wet" chimneys. (Figure 48-8 illustrates a gunned lining placed over a membrane as a lining of a concrete shell. This same design may be followed in application to a steel liner.)... [Pg.324]

Refractories may be preformed, ie, shaped, or formed and installed on-site, ie, specialties. Iimovations in placement and vessel constmction has led to a greater emphasis on specialty refractory products. Castables, gunning mixes, and plastic and ramming mixes are used either for repair or for complete new constmction of what is known as monolithic linings. The tendency to use monolithics instead of constmctions using shaped products has been steadily increasing. As of the mid-1990s, monolithic installations are as common as conventional shaped product constmction. [Pg.22]

As for storage tanks, stainless steel and lacquer-lined mild steel are suitable materials of constmction for pipe lines. For pumps, valves, etc, various alloys are suitable, including phosphor bronze, gun metal. Monel, stainless steel, and certain nickel steel alloys. Alloys with high proportions of ziac and tin together with copper and aluminum are not recommended. [Pg.44]

Hand and power tool cleaning is used on ships mostly for spot repair of damaged areas. Hand tools include scrapers, wire bmshes, and sanders. Electric and pneumatic power tools, which include grinders and needle guns, clean faster and more thoroughly than hand tools. Most power tools have vacuum lines coimected to collect paint debris. [Pg.365]

Because polymers are typically non-conductive, sample charging can occur and has to be compensated carefully, e. g. by use of a low-energy electron-flood gun, to avoid line-shape distortion and misinterpretation of the measurements. [Pg.25]

The third line includes fixed fire protection systems (sprinklers, water sprays, or deluge systems, monitor guns, etc.), dikes, designed drainage systems, and other systems that control or iiiitigaic ha. ardous releases. [Pg.72]

Castables can be modified by a clay addition to keep the mass intact, thus allowing application by air-pressure gunning (gunite). Depending upon the size and geometry of the equipment, many castable linings must be reinforced wire and expanded metal are commonly used. [Pg.51]

The Physical Electronics 680 Nanoprobe employs a field emission electron gun, and this results in a spatial resolution of less than lOnm. Ion bombardment for depth profiling is available in the SAM, and both the electron beam and the ion beam are computer controlled so that depth profiles can be run automatically, and maps and line scan of Auger electron distributions can be generated. [Pg.176]

Both characteristic X-ray line and continuous spectra were used to evaluate the performances of the resists. To determine exposure parameters (i.e. sensitivity and contrast) irradiations were carried gut in this study using the aluminum Kot- 2 emission line at 8.3t A generated by means of a modified Vacuum Generators Limited model EG-2 electron beam evaporation gun. The resist samples were exposed through a mask (A) consisting of a range of aluminum foils of different thicknesses supported on an absorbing nickel frame in order to vary the X-ray flux. [Pg.279]

The polymers were dissolved in methylisobutylketone (MIBK) and spin-coated on oxjdized silicon wafers (1100 X thick Si02 layers) to form 5000 A thick films. After a prebaking to improve adhesion to the substrate, the resist samples were irradiated 0 through the mask (A) using the Al K 152 emission line at 8.3 A as X-ray source. The electron beam gun was operated at a 300 W power and the source to sample distance was U.9 cm. Taking into account the absorption of the aluminum foil mask, the different X-ray fluxes available on the sample were calculated from the relation given by (9) ... [Pg.283]

Originally, equipment was made largely from wood or gun-metal and often rubber lined. These materials give the lowest hazards from friction with explosives. Nowadays, improved standards of engineering and of design have made it possible to employ stainless steel and plastics in the construction of explosive machinery with considerable increase in mechanical efficiency. In this way not only can processes be carried out more rapidly, but the quantity of explosive present at any time is reduced, with consequent increase in overall safety. [Pg.45]
