Another approach to the fabrication of LB films from prefonned polymers is to fonn a hydrophobic main chain by reacting monomers tenninated by a vinyl group [102, 103, 104, 105 and 106]. The side groups studied also included perfluorinated hydrocarbon chains, which tilt with respect to the nonnal to the plane of the film, whereas the analogous ordinary hydrocarbon chains do not [105]. 

When equal amounts of solutions of poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(acryhc acid) ate mixed, a precipitate, which appears to be an association product of the two polymers, forms immediately. This association reaction is influenced by hydrogen-ion concentration. Below ca pH 4, the complex precipitates from solution. Above ca pH 12, precipitation also occurs, but probably only poly(ethylene oxide) precipitates. If solution viscosity is used as an indication of the degree of association, it appears that association becomes mote pronounced as the pH is reduced toward a lower limit of about four. The highest yield of insoluble complex usually occurs at an equimolar ratio of ether and carboxyl groups. Studies of the poly(ethylene oxide)—poly(methacryhc acid) complexes indicate a stoichiometric ratio of three monomeric units of ethylene oxide for each methacrylic acid unit. 

Inspired by the separation ability of cyclic selectors such as cyclodextrins and crown ethers, Malouk s group studied the synthesis of chiral cyclophanes and their intercalation by cation exchange into a lamellar solid acid, a-zirconium phosphate aiming at the preparation of separation media based on solid inorganic-organic conjugates for simple single-plate batch enantioseparations [77-80]. 

Efforts by various investigators to demonstrate a luciferin-luciferase reaction with luminous fungi were uniformly unsuccessful until Airth and McElroy (1959) obtained a positive result. Airth s group studied further details of the luciferin-luciferase reaction using the luciferin preparation obtained from Armillaria mellea and the luciferase preparation obtained from a species identified by them...
