Studies of metal alkyls and aryls deal largely with arsenic, germanium and antimony, although some work has also been done on tellurium, mercury, thallium, bismuth and lead. Mario holds a PhD in chemistry from Palermo University (1998), the topic of his thesis being the selective oxidation of carbohydrates mentors were David Avnir in Jerusalem and Arjan de Nooy in the Netherlands. He has also studied and worked in France and Germany. In 2005 he was appointed Maitre de conferences associe at the Montpellier Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie. Between 1993 and 1994 he worked in the Netherlands, initially at the Rijks Universiteit, Leiden, and then at the TNO Food Research Institute in Zeist. In 1998 he was with Michel Vignon at the Grenoble CNRS, and in 2001 he joined Carsten Bolm s research group at Aachen Polytechnic. 

Further evidence for a possible interaction between methylation and acetylation comes from studies on the enzyme SETS that methylates H4 specifically at lysine 20 [43-45]. The native enzyme is highly specific for nucleosomal H4 K20. Some results suggest that the functional effects of H4meK20 may be modulated by acetylation of H4 K16, or vice versa. However, there are discrepancies in the results presented by different groups working on this modification, possibly attributable to differences in the detailed specificities of the different antisera used. Until these are resolved, the way in which H4meK20 and H4acK16 interact remains unclear. 

The rate and equilibrium constants for the reaction of oxyanions with 2-phenyl-5(477)-oxazolones has been also studied. This work suggests that attack of phenoxide ion at the carbonyl group is a concerted displacement. 

It is now considered, by most groups working in this area, that vanadyl pyrophosphate (VO)2P207 is the central phase of the Vanadium Phosphate system for butane oxidation to maleic anhydride (7 ). However the local structure of the catalytic sites is still a subject of discussion since, up to now, it has not been possible to study the characteristics of the catalyst under reaction conditions. Correlations have been attempted between catalytic performances obtained at variable temperature (380-430 C) in steady state conditions and physicochemical characterization obtained at room temperature after the catalytic test, sometimes after some deactivation of the catalyst. As a consequence, this has led to some confusion as to the nature of the active phase and of the effective sites. (VO)2P207, V (IV) is mainly detected by X-Ray Diffraction.

Modafinil is a stimulant medication used to improve wakefulness in patients with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (as adjunct to standard treatments for the underlying disorder), and shift work sleep disorder. Controlled and open trials provided data on the efficacy and safety of modafinil in patients with narcolepsy (Besset et al. 1996 Billiard et al. 1994 Broughton et al. 1997 Mitler et al. 2000 U.S. Modafinil in Narcolepsy Multicenter Study Group 1998, 2000). Modafinil has a long duration of action and low potential for dependence and may be a reasonable first choice in the treatment of mild to moderate narcolepsy (Silber 2001). There is also considerable interest in the potential use of modafinil in the treatment of ADHD, and studies are in progress.
