Focus group

If you do not listen to people, you cannot expect them to listen to you. Communication is a two-way activity. Do not make assumptions about what people know, think, or want done about risks. Take the time to find out what people are thinking. Often, people are more concerned about issues such as trust, credibility, competence, control, voluntariness, fairness, and compassion than about mortality statistics and the details of QRA. Use techniques such as interviews, focus groups, and surveys to gauge what people are thinking. [Pg.61]

A number of alternative sizing methods are available, and these are described in Table 8. The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, Inhalation Focus Group conducted a comprehensive review of available methods, which was published in a series of articles identified in the last column of the table. All of the methods described either have been or are currently employed in the development of aerosol products. However, at this time only the inertial samplers, cascade impactors and impingers appear in compendial standards and in regulatory guidelines [44-46], Other methods such as thermal imaging are also under development and may give complementary size information to the current methods. [Pg.497]

Second, in a survey of 1000 British consumers, respondents were asked how worried they were about a series of potential food safety issues previously identified from focus groups as things which concerned consumers about food consumption. In Table 6.5 the worries are ranked according to the percentage of respondents who said they were either very or extremely worried about the food safety issue. For example, 60% were very or extremely... [Pg.82]

Most companies will purchase a range of datasets from a variety of commercial companies who specialise in collecting and collating such data. The sources of information are wide and varied and includes panels of GPs and specialists who record what they are prescribing and for what indication, to information from wholesalers and pharmacists. Companies will also sponsor individual market research studies with questionnaires and face-to-face interviews with individual panels of doctors or focus groups. [Pg.345]

Focused drug use evaluation (drug utilization review) can be done to identify problems concerning the use of specific medicines or the treatment of specific diseases, particularly in hospitals. The qualitative methods employed in social science (e.g. focus group discussion, in-depth interviews, structured observation and structured questionnaires), can be used to investigate the motives underlying irrational use. All data collected should be used to design interventions and to measure the impact of those interventions on medicine use. [Pg.85]

The approach taken by practitioners in dealing with parental drug problems as they impact on child welfare and child protection forms Chapter 9. The nine focus groups convened were each made up of three or four practitioners (n=35). The focus groups were split evenly between health visitors, drug workers and social workers (three groups of each discipline). [Pg.23]

This was also true of some of the social workers. The appearance of the children was taken as an important marker, particularly focused on the state of their clothes, as was the straightforward interpretation of the vignette, made by a number of individuals across the practitioner groups, that having been on a methadone prescription for the past year equated with stability. An example of this is cited below, as is the more questioning response of another social worker in the focus group ... [Pg.144]

The social workers in the focus groups confirmed this expectation that practitioners should monitor and report concerns to them, because of their statutory responsibilities to protect children. They acknowledged their limited access to families and reliance upon other practitioners, particularly health visitors, to keep a watching brief With regard to services offered by drug workers they could see the merits of a division of labour in working with parents and children ... [Pg.147]

The first hidden lesson is what we will call engagement or what Stanley called vocation. After careful analysis of the results of his study, Stanley found that many of the 733 millionaires worked in areas they found profoundly engaging, work they profoundly loved. Over and over again, the millionaires answered their questionnaires, interviews, and focus groups with tales of love for their work. Their work was not a job it was a vocation or a calling. [Pg.28]
